Question for you smart football people.  Were there changes made in the blocking schemes from the Pitt game to the Detroit game?  Did the Panthers Oline do anything differently or did they just beat an inferior dline?

I am also interested in answers to these questions from some of the x's and o's gurus. I am gonna guess that at least part of the answer is that Lions linebackers are awful, but I'd also like to hear from folks who pore over game tape to analyze this sort of stuff.

Campbell acknowledging that they stayed in nickel even when Carolina was going 2-TE was confirmation of the head-scratching decisions they made throughout the game. Carolina's TEs are worthless in the passing game, and they've been feasting at times on the ground, so why not make Darnold and the TEs beat them through the air? Whatever though, Carolina absolutely rolled them.

Yeah. That was literally the most dominating game I’ve ever seen from a Panthers offense in the history of our team, and I can count on 1 hand the number of games I have missed since 1995. This was even better than the Tampa game a while back when Double Trouble went nuts. Now we just have to pray that we can be consistent and do it to Tampa as well. I think our defense will shut them down for the most part. Brady is a shell of his former self these days and the entire Bucs team looks incredibly old and slow.

I was at that Bucs game...think it was a Thursday night game?   Not sure but definitely a night game.  Playoff atmosphere.  Stadium was rocking...everyone standing the entire game.  Basically ended Gruden's run as the Buc HC. That was fun Panther football.  It is nice to have a game this time of year that means something.

It was definitely a weekday game. Maybe MNF.

I was there, too, but can't remember if it was Monday or Thursday night.  The one image imprinted on my brain, though, is JStew planting Ronde Barber into the BOA turf with one of the nastiest stiff-arms I've ever seen..

Very good point. There were truck sized holes on Saturday and now it makes even more sense why. We have committed to the run and the teams with bad run Ds can’t stop us, especially in nickel defense. I mean I can’t even fathom what the rational for that is considering our WRs and TEs after DJ. We’ve lost every single game we haven’t rushed for more than 100 yards (0-7). The recipe to beat us is simple, stop the run and Detroit played nickel for most of the first half? Probably one of the dumbest calls this year.

We ran on Tampa before so the question is will they make an adjustment. 4 of our 5 best running efforts were at home. The other question is our pass D.

The default defence in the NFL now is Nickel.

It's why teams like the Titans are successful - and why we've been successful recently, defences simply aren't built to stop teams that make a big commitment to the run.

Funnily enough our defence isn't built to stop the run either, but our OLine is absolutely a run-first unit.

The problem with it is that obviously everything has to go right - if you get off schedule (i.e. go behind by a couple of scores) you're in big trouble.

Yes.

For the vast majority of games these days, your third best LB is far less important than your third best corner, because the corner will be on the field far more than the LB.

It was a Monday night game.  Late in the season to maybe week 14 or 15

I haven't watched the o-line vs the D-line in that game, but if I had to guess i'd say it stemmed from Cameron Heyward being a beast, and he's being flanked by Myles Jack and Devin Bush while he eats up blocks.

So yes, the Lions have a much inferior D-line and LB core, but few have ones a strong as what Pitt has.

Cool. Pittsburgh shut them down and Pittsburgh fuging sucks. Gonna need to throw the ball if they sneak into the playoffs.

Pittsburgh sucks but their D-line doesn't.

Like do u think that if a team sucks they have no strengths?

    • Ive been saying for 15-20 years, any time this franchise has a little success the FO starts acting like we are big shots and they start throwing their dicks around as if we are a multi-Super Bowl winning team. They get complacent and keep doing the same things over and over again despite the league always changing year after year.  They think their way is the only way. We need to get these large egos out of the FO and actually address weaknesses, doing smarter things with the cap, and keep improving.
    • Fun fact: We finished the year $7,050 below cap. Through cap magic we had $507,050 but were able to move pieces around get the rooks signed and make sure all of Jarvy’s perf. bonus was paid this year instead of rolling some of it over.
