What is a head coach?

He lost me yesterday. Taylor and Henderson clearly couldn't handle Mike Evans in man coverage with no over the top help. Holcomb never adjusted to that and Wilks never forced him to. The end result was three go route TD bombs. It's ultimately on the head coach. Especially when the head coach is not only a defensive specialist but a secondary specialist. That's inexcusable and it's a failed audition for getting the interim tag removed.

We were watching John Fox let Ken Lucas get ripped to pieces against Larry Fitzgerald all over again on Sunday.

I like Wilks and it seems like the players love him, but he's a middling head coach at best.  Very strong position coach or coordinator but not HC material.

We are kidding ourselves if we think losing both our starting corners wasn’t going to result in Tom Brady and the best wideout tandem in the South from feasting. I think you guys are overestimating Wilks’ fault in this. This was the perfect storm of injury luck and bad matchups.

Actually I heard Wilkes address that. He said that on both the touchdown catches that Henderson gave up, there was supposed to be help over the top which was late and didn't get there.  He said he wouldn't have put Henderson on an island like that. He blamed poor execution  not scheme.  So honestly we all saw the same thing and were screaming for double coverage. Apparently he did too.....

Have you watched the Bucs offense this year?  That was by far their best offensive performance of the year.  Even the depleted Cardinals, who were starting their 3rd string QB and the 29th scoring defense held the Bucs to 19 points.  Please do not give Wilks an excuse for the atrocious performance on defense.

Brady hadn't even thrown more than 1 TD on 15+ air yard throws this entire season.  He had 3 yesterday.  Horrendous defensive scheme and play-calling.  And the lack of adjustments?  I mean come on now.  Injured CBs is an excuse for the 1st TD.  Hell, I'll give it to you for the 2nd one.  But to let it happen a 3rd time?  Wilks ain't no defensive mastermind.  He was Rivera's sidekick.

Anybody else they face go against Keith Taylor and Henderson?

One starter down at the position is manageable. 2? That’s a recipe for disaster.

Yesterday was rough. But as a whole, he’s taken a team that wasn’t “his” from the beginning of the football year, and taken them from poo to average. He’s done something to uplift multiple guys, including McAdoo, who’s offense looked abysmal half way through the season.

I’d be completely comfortable giving him a 2-3 year deal, which in reality means 1 year to see what he can show. If the team doesn’t get better, or build upon this year, then part ways.

I don’t know the behind the scenes, but Holcomb doesn’t seem like the killer DC we need. That’s my main concern. Wilks seems tied to him fundamentally. Would he be able to let him go if things don’t improve?

McAdoo may have saved his job, but would Wilks look to upgrade from him too?

Basically my main concern is the coordinators he is or will tie himself too. That makes or breaks many a HC.

I do think HC, as defined by OP, is indeed a managerial, delegation heavy, leadership role more than anything, and he seems good at it.

The key is the people he’s delegating to. I’m not so confident in them.

Im probably in the minority here, but I didn’t think yesterday was rough. We went toe to toe with the GOAT in a situation in which he never loses and had an 11 point lead in the fourth quarter trotting out Sam Darnold, minus CMC, and a receiving crew consisting of terrace Marshall, shi smith, and Shenault.

We were also down our first and second corners.

There’s a couple moments in yesterday’s game you can point too on Wilks and say he needed to be better (the short fourth and one and not calling a timeout on the delay of game), but other than that I thought he had this sub par roster in position to compete and they did.
