Other Thoughts About Our First Pick

This fanbase loves the flash, but riddle me this. Nine months ago most were extremely excited about Corral and now we are burying them. Look at the Bungals. Took the top QB (which we didn't) but rather than addressing needs the next year, took the top WR. Instead of hoping we land a franchise QB (Ohio State QBs never pan out), we could have the best WR in the draft or even another position and we roll with an quarterback whisperer as coach or OC and roll with Corral, who has the tools and was rated a first rounder very early on. Yeah, he's coming off an injury, but we need some consistency. It's Bryce Young or nothing as we could land another Hurts. Speaking of Hurts, he was a third rounder.

Truth. There's every chance at pick #9  we'd be looking at the third or fourth best QB prospect. Or we could be taking the best LB, WR, TE or CB available.

The smart move is to pick the best player available and go into this whole draft not looking for a savior but for the person who will do the most to make the team more complete.

And Corral, we really don't know what we have there, but we do have a guy who has had a whole year of professional level meetings, teachings and resource availability. He may be more mature than any of the other options out there. We shouldn't just pass on him.

Honestly the offense doesn't need much in terms of free agent signings. Corral/Darnold, ink Foreman ASAP, maybe a veteran WR, but a splash TE would be a key addition. DJ with a top WR, a solid veteran slot/#3 and maybe some OLine depth due to these injuries where the guys shouldn't have been playing in the last game to begin with.

Defense is definitely different. Need pass rusher, middle linebacker, corner, safety, defensive tackle, you name it. No depth at all on this defense and it's swiss cheese to begin with.

Not to kick the can down the road nor subscribe to the classic "oh just wait on next year's QB crop....it's so much better than this year" bs, but what if we wait on our QB1 until 2024?

We draft Johnston or if someone like Murphy falls to 9. Get our WR1 this year, save our draft capital from moving up and wait on next year's talent. Lots to like there and they are not Ohio State, 'Bama or UF QBs. Plus, we can see what our new HC/OC can do with Corral for a year, while bringing in a bridge QB. If it is Reich, a Brissett reunion + Corral would be interesting.

You would have Johnston-Moore-TMJ-Shenault. Maybe snag Kincaid or Musgrave in R2 and then maybe Charbonnet/Evans/McIntosh at 61. Let's deck out the offense around our already top-10 OL add pieces for either Corral or next year's QB and let Reich/Wilks have a year to assess the roster.

Truth is that Williams/Maye/Penix/Sanders/Ewers are as good....actually more tantalizing to me than Stroud/Young/Levis/Richardson.

to get to stroud we would have to give up next years pick so that pairing is a pipe dream

If they like a guy, a QB enough.  And feel it’s a good time to make a swing adding a young QB to this roster they’ve been building up.  They’d be willing to trade next years 1st
