Is A.R a smaller C.Newton in the rough?

I mean ... do we not want to build a dynasty here? I said it in another thread, some of you want to relive the Cam Era so damn bad you're willing to draft a WORSE version of him? That makes zero sense. I know Cam brought joy to your lives, guys ... but come on. We need a GREAT QB ... not a discount version of:

Physical tools alone he is a lot closer to Cam

Willis: 6’0.5” 219

Anthony Richardson 6’4 238

Cam 6’5 248

All Similar Speed.  Cam and Richardson similar arm strength.

now polished?  No where near Cam…….yet.

I’m not talking about strictly measurable I’m talking about the on field product.

Anthony Richardson can't pass. He's a fastball pitcher that will get picked off 4 to 5 times a game in the NFL. He has 0 touch and can't layer his passes and has little arm talent. His footwork in the pocket is raw. He is a wildcat QB that every NFL defense will challenge to win the game with his arm.

Definitely not a QB Reich would want behind center. There is no stability to his game and he is not clutch with his situational football.

what if I told you the best qb from the last class had a 58% completion in college?

Completion % rarely tells the full story. It really depends on the offense and average air yards per pass attempt and drops etc… I see a lot of AR’s passes going deep. A WCO QB for example should have a higher completion % than one that goes deep more often. That doesn’t make the WCO guy better or more accurate.

Completion percentage is often just a measure of how efficient/inefficient the average pass the QB is asked to make is than anything else. It's mostly a meaningless stat. Especially when we're talking about college players. A big culprit behind Cam's lower CMP%'s here was that under Shula we ran the ball up our guard's ass two times for a yard and then drew up a long developing pass play on 3rd down with a bad line. Often forced errant throws and hits because we were asking Cam to make harder throws on average than just about any other NFL QB besides Rodgers under McCarthy and perhaps Luck in Indy.

That said, I think AR does have some large problems as a passer but CMP% isn't really a fair way to measure it.

To the OP question I'd say Yes he is. I would draft him if they don't feel comfortable going up for Stroud. You guys act like Cam was an accurate QB or make excuses for him when continuously missing open receivers at all levels(short, mid and deep) even before TJ Watt nuked his shoulder.  I personally like the idea of having another dual threat QB running Reichs offense
