Why we won't get the #1 pick

As Daniel Jeremiah said the other day

“If you like one of these QBs, you have to take them.  There’s no assurances you’ll have a top 2 pick next year. And if you get 3.  1 and 2 aren’t going to trade off those guys.”

“You can’t afford to play the waiting game”

you can have all the picks.  AND #3

Teams at the top aren’t moving off that level of QB prospect.

This is what people aren't understanding.  Waiting next year for Maye/Williams is far from a guarantee.  The bottom two teams aren't trading those picks if those 2 players have great years again.  Our roster is too strong for us to have a bottom 2 pick, so we are going to have to trade up or draft a guy that needs some coaching developing which is what we hired Reich for.

Matt Miller isn’t the best for Draft mocking. He was a joke of a GM for years

Pretty sure you're thinking of Matt MilleN, who is a different person than Matt MilleR lol. Matt Miller joined ESPN last year from Bleacher Report:

Quote

Miller, Bleacher Report’s former lead NFL Draft writer from 2010-21, will also be a regular on ESPN studio shows including Get Up!, SportsCenter, and NFL Live leading up to the NFL Draft each year. Viewers can also expect appearances from Miller on multiple Mock Draft specials, ESPN Radio and more, including expertise on NFL free-agent storylines.

Prior to Bleacher Report, Miller worked as Director of Scouting for New Era Scouting from 2006-10 and was a coach and recruiting coordinator for the CFL’s Joplin Crusaders from 2006-08. A native of the Joplin, Missouri area, Miller attended Missouri Southern State University and gives back to the community he grew up in through his 417 Foundation, which supports children in southwest Missouri.

I haven’t read through this entire thread, but Chicago really has the chance to make out like bandits in this draft. It merely takes trading down to #2 with Houston and then playing Indy to trade down to #4. The Bears still get one of the top defensive guys and get several more picks to build out their roster.

I think they give Ridder a full year.  He was suppose to be a bit of a project and looked ok towards the end of the year when he got playing time.  If I were them I would roll with Ridder and if he doesn't grow/develop look into next year's class which might be pretty deep.

how is that any different with us and Corral. Corral has talent and is an unknown.  if we are hungry for a QB and in position, why aren't they?

The coach/ staff that picked Ridder is still there, he actually played in NFL games and looked capable. Reich is going to want to pick his guy and Corral gave him 0 reasons to believe in him.

This

And just look at the overall roster.  People bitch and moan about our defense.  But the fact is, we have a whole lot more to work with on that side, and it’s not Close.

We have a better OL in place (if Bozeman is resigned)

We have a Number 1 WR locked in.  We’re just in a better position now to drop in a QB.

Fixed

Everybody needs to be prepared for us not to get a QB and Reich may either have to find a vet or give Corral a chance.

Because we may want to move up and get a QB we may not want to pay the price or we may not find trade partners.
