Panthers sign Adam Thielen

if this is the most desperate contract the Panthers sign, then they're doing pretty good. they paid what they needed to to get the player. long-term cap implications are minimal. they still have room to fit more free agents under this year's cap and have room for draft picks.

I think they paid a premium for a player with the credentials that Thielen has. the choice to sign a veteran WR makes sense given the incoming rookie QB, young WR core with potential draft picks coming there as well. the logic is there.

edit just saw this tweet:

this front office has really seized on the void year thing. they really must feel confident about the cap continuing to go up. that makes it even more palatable in the meantime, cap-wise.

That would be great, but im not seeing the TMJ hype.

What gives you confidence he will break out?

I don't have confidence, it's all hope. He has a little juice, and this will be year three---new coaches, new QB, and being hidden by Moore's shadow won't be a problem.

I am not a fan of his contract, $25 million is a little too much for a declining player but I am very happy Adam is here though, I have always wanted him to sign with the Panthers

Please tell me he just turned 32...

A 3 year deal for a 33 year old WR makes no sense. But when we are desperate for WR help I get it.

Trade for Hopkins and I like this move even more.

He is not seeing year 3 and he's not seeing all $25 million.

Year 3 is most likely a year where we can dump him with limited cap hit. He is guaranteed 14 million, he will probably get ~16-18 million when all is said and done.

This is not a bad contract for a #2 WR at all. Especially when we gave Robb(y/ie) Anderson 12 Million per year to do jack poo but drop passes and throw fits the past two seasons.

This is perfectly fine and won't screw us in the long term.

#Panthers Adam Thielen 3-yr $25M, $14M gtd, $8.335M signing bonus, salaries $1.165M (gtd), $5.5M ($4.5M gtd), $4M; $2M 3rd day '24 lg yr roster bonus, $1.5M 3rd day '25 lg yr roster bonus; $29,411 per game active roster bonus 2023, '24, $58,283 per game active '25; 26-27 void yrs

So if I am right he will cost 3.73 this year.  The 1.65 salary and and the 2 mil signing bonus spread over 4 years.   We still have room to add Chark.
