The pool store is a water test.  It looks slightly better today.  I really just need to drain it but 50k gallons of water is expensive

My pool looked like that a couple of years ago.  You may want to try some flocculent.  Worked for mine. And if it hasn't been done, check your phosphate level.

Sorry, guess someone else already suggested the floc.  But it might help.  Put it in, run the recirculation for the recommended time, then just let it sit for a while. All the crap coagulates and sinks to the bottom and you just vacuum it up.

My in-laws filled one in and later admitted it was one of the worst mistakes they made when it came to the house.

Depends on the person. Some people, surprisingly, have no idea how to properly buy and inspect a house with a pool, let alone understand the costs and ongoing maintenance.

It also depends on where you live. That’s a huge factor. Not only because of how long you can use it but how much it will cost to pay someone to maintain it, which is the best route imo.

If every other neighbor has a pool like Florida or Souther Cali, it’s very cheap and effective to just have the same company do your pool as well. (Like $150/mo). Then you need to buy quality equipment, and then set aside a annual fund of 1-2k for any issues. Honestly it’s kind of like buying an expensive/finicky, leisure car.

If you do all that properly, pools are awesome. I used my pool more than enough to make up for it, and would rather do that on several occasions to relax, than other, more expensive leisure activities. You have to slowly build/ add on to it…nice grill, TV under a large gazebo etc. pretty soon you’ll have your own little paradise worth the cost. Again everyone is different, but if a pool relieves stress for you, it is great for mental health.

With all that said, I would probably not own one if I could not afford to pay someone to care for it, or had to pay $300+ a month for that.

This is what our pool looked like 8 years ago when we moved in.  It had bullfrogs living in it.  Everyone told us to just fill it in. I spent an entire week hauling buckets of sludge out of the bottom of it that I dispersed around newly planted privacy trees. It was a nightmare.

No description available.

I'm glad we didn't.  I was keeping maintenance under 500$ a year, but with the price of chlorine, I'll blow past that this summer easily.  Still, glad we didn't just fill it in.

Sounds like a very familiar story lol, chlorine looks to be cheaper this year than it was last year

Are you in Charlotte? I was at 299.99 last year and 229 this year

That area, roughly.  I order it when it goes on sale.  Pool stores markup is waaaaaay too high. I've found some off brands for 225, but I may as well go the extra 25 at that point for a brand I trust.
