Gamble & Marshall

hasn't Marhsall been replaced a lot by Captain in games? Where Marshall is off the field and Captain is playing as the #2....while Gamble has played basically every down?.......that would skew those stats when purely looking at the total # of times the 2 were thrown at.

900 (Marshall) to 895 (Gamble).

Munnerlyn has 369 snaps.

Marshall is often in punt coverages, so a portion of those 'could' be special teams (he has been credited in appearing special teams in 7 games). The website appears to split snaps though, dependant on position, as for OTs they record how often they play each spot. So I would guess that those numbers are purely reflective of how often they have been in the CB spot.

Kal mentioned that Marshall slides into the slot in nickel defenses. So one would presume Captain fills in there as our other corners have 70 snaps between them.

plus, the site is a tad bogus imo with there breakdowns....I mean Matt Moore got a negative rating for the Vikes game.....obviously the means they apply and breakdown stuff is off.

Yeah the overall ratings are calculations that they have created, so those I pay little attention to. The core stats though I can't refute and they are a legit media source. check out their interview in the articles section with Evan Mathis. They asked him to compare how he was graded by the OL coach in Cinci to what they do. He basically said its a mile more acurate than almost all media sources, although the Cinci coach is a touch harsher.

So I have no reason to believe the core stats are not far from being as accurate as they can without knowing individual assigments.

.

looks like a good site w/ some broader stats than a lot have.

I was just blown away w/ some of there overall ratings on the year so far.....I decided to check how Rosario ranked....and I noticed Vernon Davis was rated as the 52 best TE?

Penalties have seriously hurt his rating. He has 11 to his name, all of which were accepted. Not sure how they rate the run blocking, but that also has hurt his score.

Sort it purely by 'Pass' and he jumps up to 16th, seemingly a little low, but his 68% completion and 11 dropped passes again have hurt.

And Brayton is 11th ;)

Johnson 23rd and Brown 43rd

I don't trust there ratings though look were they have Dwill when Ray Rice (I was singing his praises during the draft think we could have had Otah/Rice and our 1st) is #2 when they have Dwill rated at 26th when he has more yards the same amount of TD's and only a .2 ypc less. I call BS.

Williams is punished on his overall because of his lack of involvement in the passing game, sort it by the run game only and he jumps up to 11th and most ahead have either less fumbles, more yards or more TDs. Others have purely been in on more snaps and obtained more positive points.

Like I said befor ethough, I ignore the calculated stats and focus purely on the core stats.

Kudos to you and the guys working on it as well. I had literally been searching EVERYWHERE for stats on our corners as all we had to rely on before this were 'opinions'. Makes player analysis a lil more thought out.

Just wondering if you can shed some light on why Beason's overall, especilly pass coverage, is low? Comparing his coverage stats to Willis paints one picture, but his base coverage score paints another. Beason, appears to be every bit that Willis is...

Munnerlyn is a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately I think people are viewing him with rose tinted glasses. Afterall, so little was expected out of him, it was shocking to see him push out our second round pick. He 'could' be a great CB, but at the moment he is exactly like Marshall was two seasons ago, a high energy competitive player, who contributed in several areas. Only with a worse performance...

Munnerlynn has only managed 1 PD, given up 1 TD and also given up 67.6% of passes as completions along with a 98.8 QB rating.

Compare that to the 2007 Marshall season (they do not have his rookie season), who gave up 61.1% of passes as completions, a 54.4 QB rating and 0 TDs whilst picking up 2 Ints and 4 PDs.

Thanks for the words, we're not as perfect as we'd like but we're getting closer and come the end of the season we'll be doing a lot of stat checking to sort out formatting errors and mistakes we've made, in addition to getting up a lot more articles (I wrote the one on the Panthers offense and will do a similar end of season one)

As for Beason, I'm not an analyst so this may not be 100% but from what I see Beason is neither terrible nor spectacular in coverage, hence the average rating he has while in run defense he has some really big noticeable games but there are times where he really gets handled by the opposition. His big hits can mask his play at times, though it hasnt helped the uncertainty on either side, especially the loss of Davis who was really coming along.

One thing with our stats are they're more an add on to our gradings which are independent of stats. There is often correlation but stats don't always tell the whole story - they highlight things but can be a bit misleading used out of context. Look at a guy like Revis and they really tell a story but I'd look at a guy like Steven Jackson and think the stats are kinder to his play than his actual performance (which isn't bad, but not at the level some people would say)

Thats pretty accurate. We don't include special teams snap in the overall team thing so its just a case of Marshall moving into the slot. But he never comes off the field when healthy and I remember Gamble missing some plays injured.

I can see why people would say our ratings our bogus, they're a bit different then what the media would have people believe. Feel free to question me on any, I have no agenda and we watch more game tape than anyone.

Combination of a few things. Davis has more penalties than anyone at 11 which is terrible for anyone let alone a TE, and he has dropped more passes than anyone else. He's dynamic but makes a lot of mistakes, while his run blocking is inconsistent at best.

His TDs mask an inconsistent player (though our penalties weigh him down more heavily than perhaps they should and its something we may ammend)

Just wondering what the team consists of and if you get official game film?

Its not all about yards though, a lot comes down to how the offensive line does. We dont measure yardage as a RBs effectiveness, we look at how he earned those yards. Rice is that much higher for his effectiveness in the pass game though, whereas Williams hasnt been a tremendous asset to the Panthers in that respect. The weighting is down to the individual though we're hoping to implement a system that allows the user to weight the different attributes of each position on their own.

Do what? DWill has been our entire O all year. Have you been watching the same games I have. I have seen him bail us out on 3rd and 10 more times then I can count. I think he deserves to be in the MVP race as he should have won it last year.

We dont get official game film as of yet which does hurt our ability to grade coverage plays (not as much as you might think, we've checked with teams on our grading and we're fairly consistent with theirs) but this has no impact on stat collecting, cameras always collect those bits.

7 strong at the moment and always looking for volunteers to contribute (its how I got involved)

I wouldnt agree with that, he has had moments where he has been excellent but whether it be down to a lot of little knocks he has had I haven't seen the same player that I thought was the best RB in the league down the stretch last year.

He hasn't just bailed you out on 3rd and long, thats a combination of the defense expecting pass and the offensive line opening up huge holes (along with the WRs and TEs who block well in space for the most part
