I sure hope he improves. In the past our developmental DT's got cut before they found their potential.

yeah remember tony brown? we cut that guy b/c we were "loaded at DT" at that time... then he left and started for the titans.

sometimes i wonder why we release certain guys. hindsight is 20/20 i guess.

I didn't see enough of Irvin as a pro to make much of a judgement, but in the Georgia games I watched, you could tell that he's a pretty darn good athlete for a DT, and has plenty of upside. He will have a butt load of competition in TC, but I fully expect Irvin to hold his own and improve himself. I have no idea how this competition will shake out, but I do know that it's a good thing to have this many DT's fighting for two positions.

I would like to get his former teammate Geno aktins this year too.

With all defensive linemen, you are usually exchanging height and mass for explosion and pursuit. Peppers being the rare exception as he has height, mass, explosion, and pursuit.

If a team bulks up its tackles in the center, then the ends need to bring the pressure, and it seems to me the Panthers moved in this direction when they took Everette Brown and Corey Irvin together, in the midst of the Peppers franchise poo.

Irvin is taller and probably more massive than Damione Lewis who is likely, although not necessarily, approaching his final NFL years. Seems to me Irvin and Kemo together have a huge combined wingspan and mass, and will shut down the run on first and second downs. That is Panthers football, and we've missed Kris Jenkins ever since he left.

But I don't see great speed or ability to pursue the passer from Irvin or Kemo. My concern would be who is on the line for passing downs? Maybe a coached up Irvin.

i personally think it'll be D-Lew and Kemo still starting, and irvin will be a rotational guy... and they'll do what they've been doing the past couple season and will bring in nick hayden, tyler brayton and charles johnson on passing downs. i actually saw a lot of growth in nick hayden this past season, and i look forward to seeing him grow even more this offseason.
