BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns

Recommended Posts

One hundred forty one million dollars. Ho Lee poo. Guess their GM really wanted out of NY.

Anyone expecting Burns to all of a sudden catch a gear and be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor is hitting the pipe way too hard.

Nobody knows what someone has going on in their lives or in their own head. Easy to judge and dish dirt, I know I’m guilty. Many elite talent have succumb. Jenkins. Benjamin.

NY sports media… Sorry Brian.

If that's your off-season addition he's underperforming immensely that's a rookie learning his position in the NFL type of numbers definitely not a big money  140 million dollar contract player.

This has been posted and discussed ad nauseam on here.  Morgan didnt want to trade Burns

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5334576/2024/03/11/carolina-panthers-brian-burns-defense/

Morgan was second in command behind Scott Fitterer in 2022 when the Panthers rejected the Rams’ offer just days after trading All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. The lone dissenting voice was former salary cap and contracts executive Samir Suleiman, who believed the Panthers should take the picks for Burns, according to three sources familiar with the discussions.

Almost an entire fuging room of highly paid NFL execs had less foresight than most of this board. That’s a little scary.

that was a f.ucked up ride reading the comments with that perspective...

I didn’t realize it was an old thread and thought the giants were already trying to trade him. I was only mildly surprised at the headline.

He was never worth elite money and he isn't a difference maker by himself. He could be a solid piece on D but if your overpaying him then you can't afford the difference maker to do the heavy lifting. He is a great example of why organizations shouldn't tell solid guys they are special. That trade refusal put the situation with him over the top after years of moving him around while saying what a special player he was and made his future predictable.

Ohh and CMC is on IR getting second opinions so it doesn't sound great. He was hurt here and he got banged up there. His team is also tied with us right now with him out all year. He is a stud but the money to have tied up in him and not have him isn't a only positives thing. Some of those takes about him here are not ageing well even if they did have a good window with him.

He is in no way shape or form worth that contract. But at least with Burns he generally stays healthy even if he's mediocre at best.

McCaffrey gets a big new contract and immediately goes back to the same old same old. All these people that spent the last year crying about him should have known better.

Healthy just strings out a giant cap waste. That was true on his 5th year option money but not at what they are paying.

CMC got banged up before this in SF too. It's not like he went there, was 100% healthy and just now broke down. They paid him because he is worth it when he is on the field enough. Especially for a contender with a game managing QB on a rookie deal. The crying needs to be put to rest. Moore was a worse loss than CMC.

Fwiw, the article doesn't say what Morgan wanted to do.  It just says he didn't dissent/disagree with his boss.  Those are two different things and we have no if Morgan dissented in private or what the relationship was between Morgan and Fitterer. The one who did dissent was fired, so maybe Morgan knew better than to air his dissent.

    • I made this very remark back when people here were wanting to pay this guy 20-25 million a season once upon a time. A few people jumped all over me. I've been skeptical of Morgan but at least he was wise enough to cut bait quickly after taking a chance on this guy. He's just another headcase WR.
    • How do you see it playing out differently?  Seems pretty clear cut in the Top 5 to me, it will be 2 QB's, Hunter, T-Mac, and then the 5th player is probably going to come down to team need with Johnson, Graham, and one of the OL in the mix there. The Giants and Raiders are almost 100% taking the 2 QB's assuming they're in position to, and if not, they're going to try to trade into the picks needed to take a QB. The Patriots are taking an OL, Hunter, or T-Mac, which way they go will likely be decided by what they're able to get in FA before the draft.  If they get an OT or two, they go with Hunter or T-Mac, if they can't get a new starting LT, I think that's the way they go to protect Maye. The Jags are a mystery as they really shouldn't be this bad this year, they have a lot of pieces and really could go any direction with their pick because of it. I also only see one more possible win for us against Dallas, we're not beating the Eagles and I just don't think the Cardinals, Bucs or Falcons will lose to us with their playoff hopes on the line. And if we win 1 more game, I think we still end up in the #5 spot.   Jets still play the Jags and the Dolphins twice, Titans play the Jags twice and the Colts, so even if we win one more, they both likely do as well with puts us in line for the 6 spot at worst.  At that point it would come down to if the Browns are able to beat the Dolphins, but with that game being December 22nd and in Cleveland, I think they have a real shot at winning that cold weather game where the Dolphins tend to struggle. You have to keep in mind that we're also likely to have the tiebreaker over almost every team who might be picking in the Top 10.  The Patriots are the only team currently slotted in the Top 11 picks that would pick before us if we end up with a tied record, we have the lower SOS than all the other 9 teams in that range.
    • My brother is a life long Browns fan, (i'm still in the closet) and I told him what was coming after Winston beat Baltimore... we would eat his ass up every season he played in Tampa.  Crab claw stealin mufker...
