I am going to admit that I thought the Big 1G was overrated all season but that was way wrong.  Best conference especially those top 3.  Illinois and Michigan also with big wins.

Super conference SEC not so much

After OSU lost to Michigan I wondered if they were overrated, too - turns out the B1G or whatever is just good.

No, 4 conference champions got a bye. The wrong 4, obviously.

Who else could you give the bye to?  Oregon beat Ohio State.  Georgia beat Texas twice. Arizona State was a conference champ, and probably would have beaten Texas had the ref's got the targeting call right.  I suppose one could argue that Boise State didn't deserve it, but I like seeing the little guys get something like that.  And they arguably played as well as any of the other top seeds did, except for Arizona State.

I'd like to see the byes go to the top teams regardless of if they won their conference or not, personally, with home field based on those rankings

There was no way that Boise State and Arizona State should've been top four seeds. They earned their right to be in the field. Absolutely. But getting byes? Nah.

The flaw in that is best teams is just an opinion.  But is there anyone who thinks that Georgia and Oregon didn't deserve #1 seeds?  And both teams got their arses kick.

How is that different from the current system? Rankings the conference champions above everyone else doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Just take the last playoff rankings and roll with them.

Well, the difference is that with conference championships, the teams actually won something, thus earning the right.

But then, I think they should break up the Mega Conferences anyway.

My proposal would be the top four ranked conference champions get a bye. However, a reseeding would occur after the first round.

This rewards four of the five conference champions with a week of rest, but it also ensures actual 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, and 4-5 matchups in the quarterfinals. In many cases, the third and fourth conference champs will be reseeded lower than some of the at large teams, which is where they should be.

Yep.  Auto byes wreck the logic.

12 - Clemson

11 - ASU

10 - Boise State

9 - Indiana

8 - Tenn

7 - OSU

6- ND

5 - PSU

those are the teams that should of played first round.  I mean all you have to do in theory was have ASU have a worse record while winning their conference (everything else being the same) and suddenly they would have been forced to give #12 Clemson a first round bye.  Makes no sense.  Imagine that playing out.  Conference titles should count in terms of wins and losses that impact ranking of the 12 but the byes just don’t make sense

The only solution is to expand to 16 teams and eliminate the bye lol

And when complaints occur regarding that, the solution will be to expand to even more teams.  Just as they have done with the NCAA tournament.

I think the solution is to play well for the entire season and then let the cards fall where they will.  But it might be a good idea to eliminate a team playing at home and have all the games played at neutral sites.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
