I know its easy to pile on to Tepper.

I wouldn't want an Owner that didn't meet weekly with the head coach and GM when their team sucks this damn bad.

The weekly meetings with the owner is why they suck so bad. Chicken/egg kinda thing.

Money is money. Reich wasn’t broke when he took the gig. I doubt he was.
At a point, money stops being what mattered.

Someone fuging you over and changing the rules in the middle of the game, tends to obscure the reason you want to be there. At some point your only hope of relief is to force them to fire you.

I don’t know what happened but have the big guess that number one they forced Bryce on him and took all the fun out of it right there. Then forced him to keep playing him when he needed to not be on the field.
I’d be wanting out too.

So the Colts fans were complaining about his predictable play calling as well.  It followed him to Carolina.  The Colts also immediately looked better when they replaced him the following year.  His staff (some of which HE picked) were going behind his back because they no longer believed in him and his players gave up on him.  Reich was 100% part of the problem.  He constantly called WR screens to his oldest, slowest WR to the tune of doing it even when he was on the bench and having to use a time out.  Come on now, he isn't some poor victim here....

Reich agreed to the staff and it's one of the reasons he got the job over Wilks.  Also Duce Staley was a Reich hire and he is one of the main ones who went behind his back in frustration (yeah a vet assistant coach that he picked was frustrated at him.  Doesn't really sound like he is innocent to me).  I'm not giving the man a pass for failing miserable at a job he signed up for.  Roll out Bryce, do some presnap shifts, do some run heavy offense with play action in there.  He kept it predictable and boring to the tune of defenses knowing the exact routes.  Yeah Bryce limits the offense, but go out swinging.  Reich was just collecting his check and the players (and some staff) knew it.

Teppers snitch was Campen and Caldwell.   Wilks never had a shot at this job.   I think when the firings came down you saw who was on whose side.   Reich most certainly mailed it in but I am sure he was sold a bill of goods as well.  And it should be crystal clear at this point that Young was forced on him and that bullshit about everyone in the building wanted bryce was just lipstick on a pig.

Much like with Canalas, I would love to know the exact moment when both coaches saw young and were like "motherfuger this kid cannot play in the nfl, I am fuged"

David Tepper having weekly meetings with a football coach about football is like a football coach having weekly meetings with David Tepper to criticize and browbeat him about the proper ways to run a large hedge fund. The person in power is woefully inadequate compared to the person being forced to defend his tactics. It's the foundation for a catastrophically imbalanced relationship and we've seen this play out on the football field in real time ever since Tepper started his heavy meddling on the football side starting in his second year of ownership. I really wish he could accept that it has been an obvious net negative and just go back to focusing on the business side.

Canales is trying to build a NFL offense and forces Bryce to play in one when he is out there.  He isn't afraid to line him up under center, have pre snap movement, play action, roll outs etc... He also benched Bryce based on performance.  When asked about Bryce he is nice sure, but early on mentioned him just doing his job as 1 out of the 11 people on the field.  This is the sign of a coach wanting to do his job well despite the issues going on.  Reich did none of this.  Again his favorite play was a WR screen to the 34 year old slow AT....  Where is Reich at now?

I wasn’t one of the ‘we have to have an offensive master mind play caller’ people to start with.
Reich was okay with me but I really only knew a little about him as a coach. Didn’t follow Indy. Knew people considered Irsay a loose cannon. I don’t know that any of it mattered once the stuff started here.

And I don’t know who went behind who’s back once they were here. None of it matters that much to me in any analytical sense, scene of the crime type of view. All of whatever it could have been or not have been was over when they took Bryce Young.

I don’t blame anyone much for anything after that little bit of undermining the prospects of the team for the next 5 years. And even though Reich was out of here soon enough and we are still eating the same crappy meal and it isn’t a mystery as to why.

I knew the defense was going to take a big step back from last season, and it wasn't special last season.

I also knew they are trying to create a new offensive system.  Which really can't be done with a defense that defend anything.

Blame tepper all you want

I blame Morgan and Dave  C for not having a better plan for a consistent pass rush.

At this point Throw it all in the trash.  What does it even matter when we can't win in the tenches on defense well enough for even a run first offense to be successful.

What else can they do at this point in the season? If Andy cannot go it's Young out there. The only way anyone else gets a start is if Young gets hurt. If both are hurt then it's Plummer and probably Luton will be signed to back him up. No one is coming in to save this team this season.

I have a feeling there will be a lot gutted in the offseason.

Easy, the difference is Reich, after he was hired. Canales, before he ever interviewed.
Which is why I felt Canales would at least know what he was getting into.
There is no way an NFL coach can look at Young and see what the media and the fans and the Tepper’s saw. Just no way, so Canales absolutely knew.

What might be fun is to dump Bryce and then do a coaching search with that high pick, just to assess why no one wanted the job.
Would you want to take a job that requires you to build your offense around Bryce Young? Hell no.

Why are we assuming these are negative, beat down meetings? Reich talked about getting chewed out last season. Perhaps Tepper has learned from that experience. Plus he can't really fire Canales anytime soon so he has to take a different approach. These meetings could just be a discussion on the plan and players, and status updates. He has a right to want to be informed. Doesn't necessarily mean he's forcing decisions and direction.

You quoted me but I am not really sure why this thought relates to what I was saying - but I do get that that is the reality of fielding a team on Sunday.

Might as well play Plummer. Red Rocket is NFL old and if Plummer is any way capable as a back up, you can move on from Andy at the end of the season.
