So what's the plan with Moton?

Shaq has been injury prone and not played up to his contract, Shaq should be cut loose. Where has Moton's play dropped off? O-line men have longer careers compared to linebackers. Everybody is a risk for injury, look at Derrick Brown after giving him all that money, so we shouldn't extend Brown because he might get injured?

Just to note, Shaq, Thomas, Dalton, Corbett are all gone next season and do not have active contracts. They have shitty "void" years we will be dealing with for awhile tho.

Every year it becomes more and more of a risk. We already have Lewis and Hunt tied up with a TON of cap space. We will need a Center, and god knows Ekwonu will find a way to weasel into an extension which won't be cheap. Should we really tie up even more cap space in a 31 year old? The smart move would be to draft and get that rookie contract and use the cap space on DL, Edge, WR, CB, etc.

I’d think long and hard before extending Ickey. I think we can upgrade the LT position at some point.

I think we should do it sooner than later so we don't have to pay LT money. I'd really consider putting Lewis at Center long term and Ickey at LG. Christensen to RT and draft a true LT high. Will Campbell comes to mind.

That's really the kicker.  You can't really view a Moton extension in a vacuum.

Yeah if we were spiraling I would consider a different strategy but extending seems appropriate if we can work something out.

He is north of 30 so could be wise to start eyeing the draft even if we extend. Don’t let a strength turn into a weakness, keep making it stronger.

With his current deal and his age and by the sheer fact that they havent done anything to extend him or whatever, it appears they are just going to ride it out and let him walk at 32 years old instead of working something out.   I mean a 31 million cap hit is pretty wild to have at this stage in the game

What would an extension even look like at this point?

Gotta extend him we finally got a strong oline don't fug with it. But also don't be afraid to draft a pure RT from Rd 3 onwards if they're the best player available

Yeah, something like this. We need to get his understudy in the pipeline and when he is done, we won't be.

So however long he goes, great. When junior overtakes him we move junior up and find a new understudy. It ain't that hard.

edit: Travelle Wharton was really good for us, I think he was 3rd rounder.

"Our O-Line is finally good, so we should get rid of the most consistent guy we've ever had at RT and roll the dice on a rookie in the draft because it's cheaper."

-Idiots

Ever heard the idiom "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"?

Moton is a Pro Bowl level Tackle. Extend Moton 3 years with the ability to cut bait at 2 if decline in play happens due to age. Look at drafting a tackle in the mid-rounds who is raw but has potential, and let him learn under Moton for a season or two. If he shows progress and looks like he can be the heir apparent, then move on from either Moton or Icky and have the newest guy slide in to the vacant T spot. If Icky continues to play well (And he has played very well this year, people are being chuds about him based on last year) then extend him too. You can't sit here and bitch about how "We AlWaYs GeT rId Of OuR bEsT pLaYeRs" then turn around and bitch when we extend said best players.

Who gives a poo if we have a ton of money tied up in the line? That's where you should invest the team's money. O-Line makes the offense run. Hell, draft an O-Lineman every draft. You can never have too many of them.

    • I made this very remark back when people here were wanting to pay this guy 20-25 million a season once upon a time. A few people jumped all over me. I've been skeptical of Morgan but at least he was wise enough to cut bait quickly after taking a chance on this guy. He's just another headcase WR.
    • How do you see it playing out differently?  Seems pretty clear cut in the Top 5 to me, it will be 2 QB's, Hunter, T-Mac, and then the 5th player is probably going to come down to team need with Johnson, Graham, and one of the OL in the mix there. The Giants and Raiders are almost 100% taking the 2 QB's assuming they're in position to, and if not, they're going to try to trade into the picks needed to take a QB. The Patriots are taking an OL, Hunter, or T-Mac, which way they go will likely be decided by what they're able to get in FA before the draft.  If they get an OT or two, they go with Hunter or T-Mac, if they can't get a new starting LT, I think that's the way they go to protect Maye. The Jags are a mystery as they really shouldn't be this bad this year, they have a lot of pieces and really could go any direction with their pick because of it. I also only see one more possible win for us against Dallas, we're not beating the Eagles and I just don't think the Cardinals, Bucs or Falcons will lose to us with their playoff hopes on the line. And if we win 1 more game, I think we still end up in the #5 spot.   Jets still play the Jags and the Dolphins twice, Titans play the Jags twice and the Colts, so even if we win one more, they both likely do as well with puts us in line for the 6 spot at worst.  At that point it would come down to if the Browns are able to beat the Dolphins, but with that game being December 22nd and in Cleveland, I think they have a real shot at winning that cold weather game where the Dolphins tend to struggle. You have to keep in mind that we're also likely to have the tiebreaker over almost every team who might be picking in the Top 10.  The Patriots are the only team currently slotted in the Top 11 picks that would pick before us if we end up with a tied record, we have the lower SOS than all the other 9 teams in that range.
    • My brother is a life long Browns fan, (i'm still in the closet) and I told him what was coming after Winston beat Baltimore... we would eat his ass up every season he played in Tampa.  Crab claw stealin mufker...
