Panthers agree to 1-year deal with RB Rico Dowdle

Exactly, which is why I don’t like this. Dowdle is a JAG. If he wasn’t, the Cowboys would have extended him. They are clearly going RB in the draft.

There were several RBs taken last year day 3 that would be suitable complimentary RBs to Hubbard and there will be again this year.

Oh well, at least it’s not much but it will be annoying if somehow we skip over this RB class.

Cowboys fans are pissed that they let him go to sign Javonte Williams

Do you ever have anything good to say about anything the Panthers do? 😄

You need 2 starting caliber RBs and I don't want to waste a high draft pick on one.

Could we get lucky and get a guy in the later rounds? Absolutely, but why take the risk when we signed a proven RB with the money we saved from cutting Miles Sanders.

We're still almost certainly going to draft at least one RB and probably add another undrafted guy.

This was objectively a good move

Well, the Cowboys are a bad drafting team as well so they’d be stupid to let Williams stop them from drafting a RB as well. Williams is completely below average at this point. Post injury, he’s been meh at best. I would be even more pissed if we signed him over a rookie.

in a historically good rb draft we are signing vets for this?  Doesnt compute

A good stopgap while Jonathan Brooks is on the mend. If he comes back in ‘26, Dowdle can cash in elsewhere if he balls out with us. If Brooks doesn’t return, Dowdle makes his case to be the #2 RB. And the best part - we can use our draft picks to address other areas of need. Win-win!!!

They gave Javonte Williams almost the exact same deal we gave Dowdle. Dowdle is undoubtedly better.

They signed a RB in Javonte Wiiliams.

There were rumors the Panthers tired to sign him. He was another KC connect to Tilis. Maybe this was a little pay back, I much approve Rico >> javonte.

Notice Dan or I should say Brandt is loading up on these incentive type 1-2 years deals. Feel like 90% have them...

must be a 2 year plan too...

Would’ve rather tried to get a RB in the draft. If for some reason we failed to do so, there still would’ve been plenty of FA RB’s available post draft to spell Chuba.. RB’s hang around the FA market longer than any other position. Morgan would rather be “loyal” to Brooks and prove to people it wasn’t a bad pick, than take advantage of a strong RB class. I don’t agree with Morgan’s strategy, but I rarely do.

Two 1000 yard running backs behind a stout oline, and the possibility to get another good one in the draft down the line. Bryce on the upswing and things looking much better. Spend most of the draft on defense and then bring it on.

Plus guys, Im fairly sure this will have no effect on drafting RB, in other words they will be drafting one.

Also some tough talk, Panthers need to act like Brooks will ever play again. Nothing can be done about going back in time and not using that 2nd on him. He's here and rehabbing. If he defies the odds against him, bonus to Panthers future. Wrong/unfair stuff happens in ball, trying not to sound heartless...

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
