In Bilbao in Spain for game 1 so that will be a late night! Nice Memorial Day game as well. Think I prefer to play Toronto after being swept by Florida….but we are a different team this year

I’m with ya. Home ice is enticing though.

I think our style of play matches up better with Toronto.  But I still believe if we play Florida.  We have the bodies to match up this year.

Would be interested in hearing your (or anyone else's) take on the match ups vs each potential opponent.  I'm out of market, I watch the Canes when they are on national TV, but I couldn't tell you anything about any other team in the league other than what Sportscenter shows.

I’m not an expert but it just seems like the Canes aggressive forecheck style can really give Torontos breakout fits.  They’ve had a really hard time with Florida who does something similar.

We got beat by Florida because they were more physical than us.  But this years team has guys like Taylor Hall, Jack Roslovic, Eric Robinson, and Jankowski.  We have some bigger physical forwards now that really round out the team IMO.

What worries me about Florida, is 2 things

1)Rod doesn't have a good track record against his former coaches in the playoffs

2)alot of our core group, Svech,Aho,Slavin,Jordan etc was apart of that sweep 2 years ago, will that motivate them, or have the opposite effect, make them overthink and beat them before they even take the ice

Toronto won't be pushovers, but they will be a clean slate, with no baggage

This team may not be as "talented" as the past two years, but i have to say its definitely built to win playoff games the size and toughness we've added who also happen to be guys who have recently lifted the cup makes a difference, I'm not going to root for either team tonight, while I think we would dispatch Toronto easier, im stating to get a team of destiny feeling for our squad......

If its Florida we have a score to settle and beating the Champs would have the guys amped for the finals....

And lets be honest we have a TON of young talent soon to be in the NHL and 30+ million in cap space.  Even if we dont win it all this year this year HAS been a success many thought we would be fighting for a playoff bid this year not making quick work of two divisional opponents in the first two rounds.

Yeah, the Leafs game is so predicated on being able to enter the zone with speed. And, our entire identity is denying those quick zone entries by standing you up out tge line, forcing a dump in and then outworking you for the puck.

The alleycat's whole MO is quite simply to commit so many penalties that the refs can't call all of them and trying to injure the opposing teams' MVP.

I'd rather face Toronto. But, man would it feel great to be the ones to send Chucklefug and Ratboy packing for Cancun!

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
