If Young doesn’t look top 10ish I think you move on. He’s a number 1 pick with no excuses. Has to be a franchise QB.

The problem with this is that no one wants to do this unless they have a better QB in the bag. its hard to get rid of someone mediocre

Yeah it all depends on a lot of factors.  How well did Bryce play?  Where are we in the draft?  Which QB(s) do we love and are they easily attainable?  If he is the weak link on offense and we are sitting in the draft with a talented QB on the board then yeah there is a good chance we draft him.  There are a lot of variables in that equation though.

So basically, if you remove 1st and 2nd year QB's not named Jayden Daniels, and remove the vets on new teams who are placeholders until their own rookies take over the job....

The only other QB ranked lower than Bryce is Anthony Richardson, who may not even win the week 1 job in the end anyways.

Which means they're ranking him 20th, but really he's the last ranked entrenched starting QB that isn't in their 1st or 2nd season.

Yep. Fans want to compete for championships while front office personnel and coaches want to keep their jobs. Paying a JAG starting QB negatively impacts your potential upside to compete for championships but rolling the dice to let him walk to shoot for championships might backfire and cost you your job. This is the big reason why NFL teams are generally so risk adverse. The safe path is the path that will most likely keep you in your job the longest but it also might be limiting your upside to potentially compete for championships.

not starting a new thread.  Fox Sports has a top 10 list of QBs with the most to prove in 2025.

Which 10 quarterbacks have the most to prove heading into the 2025 NFL season?

Bryce Young comes in at #4.  Which also seems about right-ish.  Got to think this season is essentially going to be the deciding factor over his career here going forward.  I'd put him #3.

1. Trevor

2. Richardson

3.  Caleb (seems high)

4.  Bryce

5. Fields

That's a lot of mental gymnastics.

So remove 12 of the 32 on the list and Bryce is last. You are correct.

I think Bryce should be ahead of Caleb here

Not really, the only QB's (other than Anthony Richardson) ranked below him are new to their teams as a placeholder starter or drafted in 2024 or 2025, not a lot of gymnastics to get there.

It's not about how many that is, if it's 20, 12, or 2...

It means there isn't a QB who's team has committed to them for the long term right now that they have ranked below Bryce.

That's not a great thing.

Regardless of how we got here, any rational fan should be excited by how well Bryce played down the stretch.

Anyone not happy about that level of play either doesn't know what they're looking at, or they're still trying to drive tired narratives.

Obviously, Cam had an all-time rookie season, and I'm not putting the two in the same basket yet, but as someone who has watched every snap of Panthers football since the start of the new millennium (Im old), Bryce was playing at a higher level at the end of 2024 than Cam was at the end of 2012 (his 2nd season).

Cam continued to develop into MVP form, something Bryce has to prove, but as someone who watched both (and will stan for Cam always), Bryce was playing at a higher level to end year 2 than Cam did.

Go watch the film if you dont believe me.

None of that means anything for the future. But the people who said BY9 couldnt play in this league are wrong.

That being said, the only thing that matters is this year. #20 is perfectly fair IMO going into the season.

I mean think about it, how would you rank him??!

His in-season turnaround is one of the wildest things I've ever seen... how do you rank a guy who looked like a massive bust in September and by January was consistently playing at a top 10 level?

My excitement level is pretty damn high heading into this season.

There were throws from the Chiefs game onward where Bryce had Drew Brees levels of anticipation.

Im excited to see what he can do with a full deck on offense, something we really never gave Cam.

Really hope and expect Bryce to move up this list this season.

I personally think you are trying to talk yourself into circles here...

It's ok to say Bryce played incredible the last 5 weeks... I know there are plenty of people on this board who desperately need the doom-and-gloom narrative, but I genuinely question how much NFL QB play some of these people really have watched when they still question him being the unquestioned starter for next year...

Again, that being said, no one is crowning him at all.

I think Bryce is one of the best stories going into 2025 bc his season last year was so outlandishly unprecedented.

It's totally fair to personally not believe in Bryce. Plenty of sports "journalists" need to write stories, and that's an easy narrative path...

But I think that actual people in the know rank Bryce much higher.

That's the fun thing about sports... we shall see!

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

4610 total yards 27 total touchdowns 8 yards per attempt. Completion percentage was usual Cam ie mediocre or below at best at 57.7 and 86.2 passer rating. But the man scored points and moved the ball at will often.

Compared to

2652 total yards 21 total touchdowns 6.3 yards per attempt completion % 60.9 82.2 passer rating.

Let's just not do things like this. We can acknowledge Bryce improved (from realistically a bottom 5 QB) and hope he can work his way within the top 15 this season without dragging Cam Newton into it and unintentionally diminishing him.

That's all I got to say. Carry on.

Cam finished 5-1 to close out year 2.  14 TDs, 2 turnovers in that window and accounting for significantly more O.   More passing yardage per game and lead the team in rushing the majority of those games.

what hurt Cam the most was the adjustment teams made to our offense with Cam going into  year 2.   Which was what made the first half of that year so rough.  Got to think a variation of that is coming for Bryce this year as he returns to the same O with an offseason of film study

    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
