flip side of that coin, I wouldn't say Bryce looked better than Nix either though

Thank you! Bryce proved himself and earned the right to go into this season as the unquestioned starter.

At some point, only haters with an agenda could watch what Bryce was able to do down the stretch with the cast he had to work with and not be impressed.

Everything could change this season depending on how it plays out, but the idea that he hasn't shown anything is nonsense.

Now is the real challenge for Bryce... being able to replicate and play at that level consistently.

Im excited to see how it unfolds, and hopeful Bryce is going to play like he did down the stretch this year.

Bryce can put up yards. Panthers receivers had the lowest YAC in the NFL, and Bryce specifically lost the most yards off of drops in the NFL last season, even after missing 5 games. The stats will come once the receivers improve.

YAC isn't just on the reciever

You're right. The QB and playcaller have alot of input too.

But screens are a tell. That's just a guy being a playmaker. It was bad. And Canales knew it. You should be able to call a screen to make defenses stop blitzing and being so aggressive. He even tried to get the little speed guy involved at the end of the season because none of the regulars could do anything with the ball in their hands. They had tons of opportunities to make plays and rarely ever delivered. Diontae was elusive, but... Sanders and Tremble seemed like the biggest YAC guys after he left. I remember one play when Legette made a few guys miss, and one long run on a busted coverage by Coker. Neither of them were screens. I honestly can't recall another play where receivers outran defenders after the catch or shook guys in the open field. That puts a lot of pressure on the QB to constantly move the chains when teams stack the box.

Bryce doesn't always lead recievers and alot of times they have to stop or reach back to grab the ball.  But your not going to admit that

Of course I'll admit that. He doesn't have the strongest arm either. On top of that, he tends to not throw with a lot velocity on purpose, opting to anticipate where the receiver will be rather throwing it to him where he is.

Will you admit that our receivers (at least in the last 2 seasons) couldn't make defenders miss in the open field?

I think they weren't given the best chance to.

So 2024 draftees count if they're ahead of him, but not if they're below?

Probably better to just compare him with QBs with equal or less NFL experience? There are only 3 other first or second year QBs ahead of him. So he's 4 of 11, and on the rise. We'll see if Jayden and Bo can hold their spots. Either way, all of them had better receivers than Carolina. Hopefully your boy TMac can help in that department.

The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions

While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions.

I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career.

And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either.

Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too.

Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ?

He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.

You don't talk about TMac's QB that way!

Below average? Seriously?? That is wild AF

My man we ain't watching the same game...

And I'm hard-pressed to believe you're watching the same film coaches are either if that is the take you honestly believe...

I've been to almost every home game at BOA over the past 20 years... I've seen a lot of bad QB play over the past 7 years.

Anybody that wasn't truly impressed by what Bryce did what the cast-offs he had to work with at the end of last year is delusional. His top 3 weapons were a 34 undrafted guy, a 7th round journeyman, and an UDFA rookie... seriously, what are we doing here??!!

Some of these takes are beyond outlandish...

You admitted yourself you're comparing Bryce to a guy you didn't even watch but are cherry picking stats for...

So go back to your eyeballs and make it simple... how much NFL football have you watched my man??

Bc to me and my eyeball test, Bryce blew it out of the effing water down the stretch.

What QBs are you watching playing so much better than him that you feel confident in saying "below average?"

If you watched that and came away with anything else, we ain't watching the same thing...

But beyond the eyeball test, every advanced metric in the book backs it up also... so again, what are you seeing that no one else is??

You think just anybody is going out there and dueling with Mahomes & Hurts with an almost comical inferior supporting cast and doing that?

Whatever, to each their own, but it is wild to pull for a team where so many people feel compelled to crap on your QB after he just pulled maybe the greatest in-season turn around in league history and was playing by any eyeball test (for anyone that has watched an appreciable amount of NFL football) or even the advanced metrics for that matter.

I could care less what PFF thinks. If we get the Bryce from the last eight games, I think we're good. If it's the Bryce from his first 18 games, then we are doomed

I just want 1 or the other not a 50/50 split. If it's 50/50 then we need to find another qb.He's limited so even when he's good we are not going to win every game but when he is bad we have literally 0% chance to win. A lot of games when Cam was bad we still had a chance to win because of the defense and he had the potential to make that one insane play. I don't think Bryce has that ability and I know the defense isn't what it use to be

I think in all honestly, the final 2 games are carrying most of the weight in a lot of Bryce talk IMO.

During the window where he "blew it out of the water" window......were a lot of games where he was not above average.  AZ is largely one of those stat sheet games.   Where the stat sheet reflects QB play that didn't exist in the game.  That game was all Chuba.  Meh vs Dallas.  Meh vs Philly.  Meh vs Giants.  Probably average vs Tampa, Den, Saints.

Bryce made HUGE strides vs what he was.  We should be happy.   But when you start comparing him to the rest of the league.....people I think are going too far.  His best aspect in reality.....is his scrambling.  And that's probably not a great thing give his size.

Where this conversation goes south continuously and becomes bitter and contentious is when the discussion involves his "improvement". It is not hyperbole to say we started out the first two games of the season with some of the worst QB play in franchise history. We're talking amongst Jimmy Clausen. So when someone comes in and says Bryce played at such a high level in the last stretch of games he even surpassed Cam Newton as a sophomore there's not going to be any logical conversation to be had at that juncture. We can talk in a reality based context or we can talk in an echo chamber context. Only one is going to foster productive dialogue.

Anyways what's done is done. We need to focus on the now. Now Bryce has an offensive line we've invested a ton of salary cap space in. He has a formidable backfield. He has a significantly improved WR room including 2 first round picks the last 2 years one being an 8th overall pick. He has one of the better TE rooms we've had in years with actual young promising talent instead of jags like Ian Thomas taking up salary cap space. He has a young up and coming offensive head coach. Honestly this is probably the best situation any QB has had entering the season since Delhomme in 2003. The foundation is there for any QB worth his salt to showcase high end franchise QB ability going forward.

    • He is also a player that has that "lock room cancer" tag.  We don't see much of the full picture, but I try to stay far away from that type of player. He is historically not good at losing, and we tend to do that a good bit. Not a good fit in my opinion.  I respect the skill, though.
    • I honestly can't think of a teams first line basically telling the coach to fug off like last night's line of Aho, Jarvis and Svechnikov did to Rod.
    • Do you even know what the term "below average" means? Because I'm genuinely not sure if you do. There are 32 QB's in the league, which means to be playing "above average" he'd have to be the 15th best QB at the league, and even then, that's in essence the "average NFL QB" still. Even going by these rankings, which have him 20th, that by itself is the definition of "below average", and that's before you consider there are multiple QB's ranked below him in this list that I'd 100% trade him for in a heartbeat. Again, no matter what you think the eye test tells you, he's made 28 starts and has a grand total of FOUR games over 247 yards.  Drake Maye has made 10 starts, all with a significantly worse group of pass catchers than Bryce has had, and he already has 3 games over that number himself. I don't need to see or know anything else beyond that to determine he is a below average QB in this league so far and I don't know how anyone can honestly argue against that.  If he was a Lamar Jackson type putting up 75+ yards rushing on a consistent basis, then you can look at those passing yards differently, but that's not the case here. Could he still improve and get to average or better?  Of course. But you're trying to extrapolate a few throws/drives/moments from a handful of games and trying to say that makes him even an average, if not above average, QB in this league.  Which is just nonsense when the players you're comparing him to have played at that level for full seasons or their entire careers.
