We're not gonna win any FA sweepstakes so now we're trading for bad contracts?  Not sure about this one.

What are you smoking? Hertl will have a 6.45M cap hit for four years because san Jose retained when he went to vegas......

6.45M for a 30+ goal high end 2C....

I didn't say he's a bad player.  But he's signed through 36 years old.  I just said I'm not sure about it.

Hes a big physical center, great shot and playmaker below/between the dots excellent PP and bumper player....

His game isn't likely to dissappear with four years of age....

This is just 2m more than useless KK.  2C is a HUGE whole and he is one of the better 2Cs.

Tulsky out on Marner since he wants short term. So trying to facilitate a trade with either Vegas or Dallas to help them clear space to sign Marner.

Vegas would be Hertl and Dallas would be for Robertson.

Either deal is contingent on the other team being confident enough that they will be the team to win the Marner sweepstakes.

Edit to add:

Vegas deal seems 95% likely to happen shortly. A few Wolves players and draft picks for Hertl the current deal.

30 isnt the same in the NHL as the NFL....

A big physical 2C who can give you 30+ goals would move us a lot closer to a cup than a wing IMO.

True but he wouldn't be the first physical C that falls off in his early 30's.  Look at David Backes.  https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/backeda01.html

Short term would almost make Marner more appealing for me if I'm the Canes GM.  If it doesn't work out, you're not stuck with some albatross contract.  If it does workout, nobody's gonna be mad about winning a cup.  Everyone loses pieces when that happens.

Not against a deal for Hertl.  The contract length gives me some pause, but ~6.5MM AAV (after SJ retained %) probably isn't a big deal if we have some dead years at the end of that.  But yeah, could potentially be another KK situation where we have a useless player stuck on our payroll if he falls off a cliff.

If this is purely a salary dump and nothing of value goes the other way, I think it's probably worth that risk.

It was purely a salary dump with the biggest piece going to Vegas was a 3rd. Seems dead for now though. Dunno if Hertl vetod the trade with his move clause or not.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
