Scourton isn't signed (& apparently it's a thing)

I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class.

"Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking.

"Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league.

"For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week.

"The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed.

"Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round."

So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.

so.....the entire second round is essentially holding out for guaranteed contracts.  Seems like it is stuck w/ Judkins and Emmanowori being the 3rd and 4th picks of that round and whatever slow trickle down does or doesn't produce from them.

So only 2 of the 32 second rounders have actually inked a contract, but yet the story is about 1 of the 30 that have yet to sign?

laughable man. Laughable.

I would assume there are lots of more stories out there (and indeed I saw some), but as I am a Panthers fan, first and foremost, Scourton was who I was researching.

If a precedent has been set by another team I can't blame his agent and himself for leveraging that for something similar. Get the deal done. But that also increases expectations. Nobody will bat an eye about it if he's producing in the fall.

Wasn’t knocking you at all and I appreciate seeing panthers related content.

Media pundits. I guess they have to write about something as camps approach

No knock taken. Just explaining. I've seen so-called articles with Panther in the title, and that's the only Panther-related thing about the article. Seriously, indexing in order to mix and match names, as well as AI is getting out of hand. But, what are we gonna do? That's the world we live in. 😅🍻

Let him go back to A&M with his buddy.  We should not allow the stupidity of Houston and Cleveland dictate our actions. Whoever started the thread about the stupidity of Houston when it first occurred was spot on.  My favorite part about all of this:

  1. Quote

In reality, everyone’s probably waiting for Tyler Shough. The 25-year-old quarterback, whom the Saints drafted at No. 40, is reportedly insisting on a fully guaranteed contract.

LOL. The old duded who plays a position of the highest bust rate wants guaranteed money????????

I followed this too much. The simple term is everyone is waiting on Saints 40th pick QB Tyler Shough to sign. QB always get more money and higher guarantees. Since the 33rd and 34th got fully guaranteed deals, Tyler wants the same.

Start doing some bad math- so #35-39 also want the full boat, so will 41st, 42nd, etc

It could last until Nic at 51st, some team has to stop the madness. Plus no player or agent wants to be first to bend the knee at a non-guarantee(thank harry Mack!).

So this could get very fugly and last into the season, no BS.

The Seahawks traded up for their pick and they could easily fall in line, thus making it messier.

I do think the teams in 30s will wait sign until Tyler signs. Same for early 40s, its the lynch pin to this whole deal. Remember too all those early 2nd round has great agents and firms. Plus unlike 20 years ago, when teams knew the draft picks would fold cause they needed the money, these picks already have bags of cash from NIL. It's different now and it could last into the season.

    • Nobody is giving up a 4th rounder for a backup QB And anyone who needs a starter badly enough to where Bryce would then be their starter, is such a bad team that they're not giving up a pick likely to be about pick 105ish overall, instead of just dealing with a bad QB situation for a season and then drafting one in a loaded QB draft next year. I'm looking through all the teams right now and can't think of a single one that would be willing to part with anything better than a 6th rounder. Barring injuries (and excluding the Panthers), there look to be 10 teams who don't know with 100% certainty who their starting QB will be in 2027... Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Vikings, Colts, Saints, Falcons, Cardinals, and Rams. Of those 10...  The Rams know it will be Stafford or Simpson.  The Saints more than likely will be sticking with Shough unless he takes a huge step backwards.  So neither are giving up any draft picks for Bryce right now, just wouldn't make sense for either. Down to 8 Given their current QB situation of having multiple QBs they already need to evaluate between this year, the Browns (Shedeur/Watson), Vikings (Kyler/JJ), Colts (Jones/Richardson/Leonard), and Falcons (Penix/Tua), wouldn't be giving up a 4th (or maybe any pick) to bring in another QB to muddy the waters even more. Down to 4 Dolphins just signed Willis and wouldn't want to bring in another small Alabama QB who has struggled after just dumping Tua instead of just rolling with Ewers as the backup.   That then leaves the Steelers, Cardinals, and Jets left as it's clear none of them have any idea who their 2027 could be as of right now.  But the Steelers would for sure rather just see what one of the 2 QB's they drafted in the last 2 drafts could become than give up a mid round pick for Bryce.  Same goes for the Cardinals in taking Beck this past weekend. The Jets would be the most likely team to even consider taking him on, but I think it seems very apparent right now given them rolling with Geno and now talk of bringing in Wilson to be his backup, they're punting on QB this year to draft someone next year, so why give up even a mid round pick for Bryce?
    • Honestly I am not sure Pickett couldn’t step in for him. But I don’t see a clear easy upgrade and we are not KC with Alex Smith we are a team that hadn’t done poo for almost ten years and just made the playoffs. And looked good in the game. That stadium atmosphere on that day…. you know Tepper ate that poo up. Not one drink has been thrown in a while.  You had better make sure if you replaced him after that that you had a sure fire upgrade.
    • Makes sense. If Bryce is ass this year, we are probably drafting our new QB next draft and sitting him behind Bryce for a year
