Goodbye to Barno

Recommended Posts

The team signed undrafted rookie JJ Weaver from Kentucky.

The 25-year-old Weaver played six seasons in college (with injury waivers), and had 21.5 sacks. He was a three-time team captain for the Wildcats.

To make room for him on the roster, the Panthers released outside linebacker Amare Barno.

Barno, a sixth-round pick in 2022, tore his ACL late in the 2023 season and began last year on the physically unable to perform list. He had 3.0 sacks in three seasons, appearing in 29 games.

Sad to see. He seemed to have a lot of potential when he was drafted. Injuries really derailed him though.

Well, might as well keep throwing 💩 against the wall to see if it sticks. I love bottom of the roster churn. Barno had a couple of years to distinguish himself, and unfortunately he didn't really do it. He'll probably stick on somewhere though, maybe, but gotta respect Dan for keeping it moving.

Any shot he had was ended when he tore his ACL.

would not be surprised if Barno's back at the roster at some point

Dan churns the bottom of the roster a lot throughout the season

IDK. If he was a PS candidate, seems like he would have made it further into the TC/preseason.

I think it's more likely that he just didn't factor in after all the pass rush additions.

jalen coker and demani richardson were both at one point cut from the roster and brought back and now are contributors

my guess is that Barno isn't healthy enough at the moment after knee clean up procedure and they needed the roster spot for training camp

    • It’s going to get wild after this Sunday.  I would assume Dave has a really smart plan.   Sorta like the AZ plan last year.    After a big turnover heavy  bad game Bryce normally reels it in.  Bryce will have one of his standard 60% for 200 days and the Bryce defenders will use that as a “ I told you he is good” games.
    • Bryce is a really smart kid and I'm sure he knows all the answers to the test but he hasn't been able to overcome his lack of physical tools and other DC's know this and play him accordingly. I think Bryce has good processing but when the correct read is the WR 30 to 40 yards down field and you have a defensive lineman coming at you what can he really do? He just doesn't have the arm to effectively and consistently hurt the defense and I think that's what's gonna do him in.  Pime example look at the INT versus Dallas last year when Thelien was wide open down the seam and Bryce threw it from a clean pocket and the ball was way short. Dc's watched that and knew that Bryce can't throw the ball deep.
    • I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.
