The whole process is bullshit.

Notre Dame was "better" than Miami 6 days ago, nothing change for those two teams, and now Miami is "better".

Alabama gets whipped in the conference title game, stays put.  Ohio State barely loses their conference title game, drops a spot and now gets Georgia in the semis instead of Texas Tech.  Wouldn't have mattered, but BYU also dropped a spot after losing in the same fashion Alabama did.  Bama is lucky Saban works for ESPN.

Ole Miss already beat the brakes off of Tulane.  James Madison's team watch party looks like a scene from Wolf Of Wall Street with all the 5'10 white guys in there.  I'll set the combined spread for Oregon and Ole Miss at -62.5.

Honestly, if you want the conference championship games to not punish losera of those games then you need to do the playoff selection before those games are played.

The best approach is really to eliminate the conference championship games altogether and just crown regular season conference champs. Those games are always gonna be monkey wrenches and the best scenario is to be a team safely in that doesn't have to play in one which is bullshit. But you'll never get those conferences to forego that $$$ generated by those games.

Dear Oregon and Ole Miss,

Please beat the dogpiss out of James Madison and Tulane (again for Ole Miss), so the CFP can change this rule and stop this mockery of letting these junior varsity teams in the CFP.

Sincerely Yours,

Football Fans

Disagree. I hope JMU and Tulane win.

I will never, ever, ever root for an SEC or Big Ten team over anyone after the way they ruined college athletics.

Listen to this non-answer on ND/Miami. This dude is getting fuging grilled and he's very uncomfortable. He's trying to muddy the waters constantly bringing up BYU like that's relevant. LOL

The answer here is honestly just saying "Listen, we screwed up having ND ahead of Miami in the rankings all along. Miami beat ND head to head and it shouldn't have taken us until the final buzzer to acknowledge that."

I missed it.  I turned the channel after Kirk Herbstreit said "the CFP should be the twelve best teams, and who knows, maybe Tulane and James Madison will prove to be one of those".

Hahaha.  Bunch of bitch-made talking heads scared to say what they really think.  I want to see what McAfee says tomorrow.  He's made his whole skyrocket rise by bucking the system, he should have the head of the CFP on tomorrow and just destroy the whole process.

Saban was the only one who spoke up that Tulane and James Madison shouldn't be in, imagine what he would've said on air if Bama had been left out.

Dude got the poo grilled out of him. He looked like cockeyed Kash getting grilled on Epstein. LOL

It doesn't logically make sense that Notre Dame is left out if you had them ranked ahead Miami last week.

Per usual, it has nothing to do with "who is better than who" its purely politics and money that decides college football playoffs, bowls, etc.

There is no justification because they are essentially admitting their previous rankings were bunk.

Agree.  If Virginia wins last night, the ACC has a team in, gets $ for participating and Notre Dame is in.

You can't have a Power 4 conference without representation in the CFP, even if said conference was complete trash this year.

Honestly, ND would've probably traveled a lot better than Miami and brought in more ratings. I think they really wanted ND over Miami but at the end of the day with a call to make knew they couldn't justify it with the head to head loss situation and basically identical resumes otherwise.

Honestly, probably correct.

The answer is pretty simple here IMO. Tell ND that if they want to be considered for the playoffs they need to join a conference.

    • Just as we won those close games we could have just as easily lost them. So the jury is out on if we were more lucky than good ( see the sweep by the saints) Were moving forward on paper. And how badly dont we all want to see us back to at least Above average form. Its about time.
    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
