Upfront, I was disappointed with the games last year. After it was all said and done, there really seemed to be an overwhelming hope that something similar to the basketball tournament would be created with this format. Cinderellas work in basketball for a few reasons, notably 1 player can have far more impact, positive or negative, on a 5-person team.

Every year there are a handful of teams that have a real claim to being a national champion contender. James Madison and Tulane have no shot. The same thing can be said about most of the other teams in the field.

Expanding it to more and more teams isn't going to have the effect of bringing in more contenders. It will have the effect of making up more 1-sided games instead. But, it is more football. Quantity over quality I guess. I can't wait until it moves up to 20 or 24 teams, or even more. Let every team in with 7 wins. That is bowl-eligible, plus 1.

Maybe this year will be different and it will be full of good, close games, with compelling performances between the very best teams in the country.

I kind of doubt it though.

Yeah, upsets are a lot easier to come by in basketball. If a team is shooting hot anything can happen. You can't just physically dominate and bully a team as easily with sheer physical dominance like you can in football.

Supposedly they already came up with a new rule for ND because they cried so much: NY Post.

Wow, what a bunch of babies. They set their schedule to have any hard games early so they can go on a run.

Complain about Alabama losing 3, because they made the SEC championship but look at the last 5 games:

Georgia, Auburn, Eastern IL, Oklahoma and LSU

Here’s the hero’s last 5 games that contributed to ND’s great run:

Stanford, Syracuse, Pittsburgh (Miami beat Pitt by more), Navy and Boston College

If ND is going to keep scheduling cupcakes at the back end, they don’t deserve poo. They turned down a bowl game because they don’t want to take any risk and lose. Not when they can force rule changes to ensure they make the playoffs.

Now Notre Dame's AD came out and publicly chastised the ACC for supporting Miami (ACC) over ND (Independent).

Sounds like they may threaten legal action.

Lol, can't make this crap up.

Wilbon just lost his mind on ND and so is everyone else today.

Yep, was about to come post this. They keep raising the bar on delusional entitlement. They really expected the ACC to push for them - a non-football conference member - over Miami which is a full conference member? Cmon ACC, man the fug up and just throw them out. Tell them to go get fuged.

"For the 2024-2025 College Football Playoff (CFP) season, Notre Dame, as a football independent, earned a maximum payout of $20 million, keeping the entire amount because they don't share with a conference. This total comes from $4M for qualifying, $4M for the Quarterfinal, $6M for the Semifinals, and $6M for reaching the National Championship game."

They don't have to play by the rules of everyone else.  And now they will be automatic if Top-12.

Even the OSU's, Bama's, Georgia's, Texas' of the world should be fighting them/this.

Now ND social media groups are floating the idea of whefher or not they should leave the ACC "current arrangment" due to this grevious offense of the ACC CFP rep actually pushing for ACC football teams to be included in the playoffs. These guys literally expected not only their personal CFP rep while every other team is relying on a general conference rep but they actually expected the conference they refuse to join foe football but use to house their other shitty teams they expected THAT rep to also lobby for them ignoring the teams that actual represent the conference in football. Absolutely unreal. This is how ND chooses to repay the conference that saved their season by letting them play a one off full conference schedule in COVID? I bet the ACC deeply regrets not using their leverage in that moment to tell them they're in or out. No more half stepping. Want a season? You're in. Demand on remaining independent? Fine. You don't have a football season and the rest of your teams can go find a new home.

The ACC needs to get ahead of this and throw them out. Problem solved.

Then why not just use the Top-12 CFB Final Rankings as the official determining factor?

Giving Notre Dame that advantage/guarantee makes no sense for anyone.

Things are going to change alot this off-season.

I think this is the way it’s trending.  Wonder if they will do away with conference championship games eventually?

No chance. TV holds too much power in all this too.

According to the Committee Chairman, losing a conference championship has zero effect on rankings.

If you’re Alabama.

But not if you’re JMU or Tulane of course.

CFP Rules:  “Things don’t matter except when they do.  Also, see Appendix A) Notre Dame rules.”

    • I am not worried about the contracts because any/all can be jettisoned in 2027 with minimal ramifications. I would like to land him because you rarely ever see an elite, 25 year old center hit free agency, this is a very weak center class and Mays is a bottom quarter starting center(love him as a utility IOL).  Ideally this offseason we solve center and draft a high caliber RT/LT to fill the gap for Ikey. Then next offseason, pending outcome of the rookie and Ikey's recovery you can jettison Hunt(VASTLY overpaid), make a determination on Ikey's ability to play(perhaps extend him on the franchise tag as a "prove it"), and let the Ikey/rookien situation dictate Moton. He can be extended on a LOWER cost deal or jettisoned if Ikey and the rookie can take the reigns. Either way, both OT's will need to be resolved, we need an actually starting caliber NFL center again and we need to get rid of one of these OG's. Hunt is the obvious choice as Lewis is substantially better across the board and cheaper.
    • That's not a thing. If they can't find someone, they either aren't actually trying or it's a poisonous job and no one will.  Yes, plenty of them have gone with whom they wanted already. That's not really the point of the rule. It's to force teams to provide opportunities. It has worked well because coaches that wouldn't normally be given interviews are given that experience and teams have also been impressed enough to either offer them in the future or pass positive comments along to other NFL owners/front office personnel.  Also, we are over 20 years into the Rooney Rule. This isn't some new thing teams have to navigate.
    • I mean, as soon as Svech scores on the guy, trot out your best shooters while the goalie is still in his head and go for the kill.  Last night made absolute zero sense.
