This XL slander is out of bounds. He has more upside than any receiver on this roster.

I don't know how you can possibly say that with Tmac and Coker around.  Coker has already outplayed his draft position (not) drastically and TMac keeps making circus catches.

Unless you mean he is currently in the basement and has the farthest to climb.

That's why I didn't want him. He basically did nothing in college until a super senior year that wouldn't have even happened had it not been for NCAA COVID year policy.

XL's first four years in college before his break out 5th year season.

I would have taken him in the second round,, but trading into the first to take him looks to be a dumb move at this point.

Nearly 500 of his 1200 yards in his final year came versus Vanderbilt, Furman and Jacksonville State.  Breaking it down even further, in those games he had one or more splash plays for HUGE yardage.  Point being, he's flash over substance and in the NFL he's not running away from DBs regularly for these massive break away plays.

I remembered his first four years being weak but damn, I didn't remember them being THAT weak. Oof

Sure hate to be the guy that has to figure who stays and who goes.  I think Renfrow said it best when he said best group top to bottom that he has ever played with.  That catch Coker made Friday that was called back was awesome.  Def.had his arm and caught ball 1 handed.  was good!!!

Give me T-Mac, XL, Coker, Thielen, Renfrow, and #6 comes down to special teams. Hopefully Horn.

I'm really not invested in the ST game but the broadcast crew seemed to think that was a major issue in Carolina to figure out.  Sure sounded they thought the coverage teams were really a place to earn a spot.  I think Hunter just be the PR guy at least to open up the season.  I don't like rookies opening up the year trying to figure the NFL speed/return game out.

and sadly, that might be where Moore has an annoying edge. I do think he runs on those coverage teams.

He's almost 25 and basic fundamental things still aren't clicking

XL needs to be spend every second he can with Renfrow.  Renfrow got where he is today because he does all the fine arts way better than most of his peers.   Renfrow has been the least physical gifted WR on every roster he has been on dating back to HS where he might of not been the bottom of the totem pole.  He just isn't talented enough for it really to expand out of the slot at this level.  But route running, the subtle stuff, fundamentals....Renfrow has all that in spades.  I still say he is the best route runner on the team and I don't think it is that close.   But he does probably get too creative but that's a product of NFL film being something that matters and he has to evolve his routes over and over.

I LOVE Coker. He has definitely warned his playing time.

That doesn't mean he surpasses XL at this point.

I'm still an XL guy (for now), but I wouldn't be mad if they sent XL a message with maybe giving Coker a symbolic start over him or something this week.

One preseason game that he didn’t even play in and the usual suspects are already ready to move on from XL.

That’s enough huddle for me today.

I don't think anyone wants to move on from him lol, we're going based on what we've seen from a full NFL season where XL looked even worse than Funchess or LaFell looked their rookie years. Of course he can develop and get better and hopefully he does. But from everything I saw last year and this offseason so far, Coker is a better player at present.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
