Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen

Hopkins only had 170 yards in 6 games for the Titans before he was traded.  He could go to a competitor, and the Titans got to dump 5.5 mil in salary and acquire another draft pick towards their inevitable rebuild. It's not the same situation.

Both are completely washed.

You and I didn't watch the same receiver play last year then. Theilen is still a receiver capable of 1000 yards in a season. The only reason he didn't have 1000+ last year is because he got injured. That's worth a 3rd round pick.

And if we need a guy on our team to make a 3rd down conversion, who is the guy that you can depend on? Theilen is that guy.

Jesus Christ dude our passing offense was 32 out of 32 the year he eclipsed 1k yards with us.

Be rational.

Rational is not trading away the few assets we actually have so that we can attempt to compete.

The fact is, everyone behind Theilen is an unknown.

I understand trading players for picks if it is in the best interest of the team, and everyone can be had for a price. I'm simply saying his value is higher than you are suggesting.

To be clear. By definition the players considered to be "assets" here actually have a long term future. Thielen does not fall into that category as he has no future here and we have three (arguably four) promising young WR's already on the roster. And we already have veterans Moore and Renfrow.

I think there are people in this thread mistaking their own personal attachment for actual value.

You can't rationally blame that on Thielen.

I believe Thielen is declining, like all players do, but you talk about him like he's been dogsh¡t or something. His play arguably and rationally is worthy of a third.

Either way he's out of here next year for nothing. You guys can shout into the void about what you think he's worth the league doesn't care.

I don't have any attachment to Thielen, and I think a fourth is arguably a waste of time. If they want him, they're going to have to act like they want him. Otherwise we can just keep him. We're likely not missing out on a damned thing by keeping him.

Well, we don't care either. If the Vikings want him this year, they're gonna have to pay.

AT has been very good for us, he may well be this season.

The idea of him being worth a 3rd round pick in trade value is lightspeed insane.

The Exhibit’s Josina Anderson reports the Vikings are “not likely” to trade for Panthers WR Adam Thielen “at this point.”
That makes two national reporters who have pumped the brakes on a potential Thielen-Vikings reunion. Both Anderson and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini highlighted the potential deal’s financial speed bumps while also stopping short of fully ruling out the trade between the two teams at some point. If the Panthers are willing to take on some of Thielen’s contract to facilitate the trade, the Vikings might be willing to make the move.

That's NOT what that says.

"If the Panthers are willing to take on some of Thielen's contract..."

Which we very well may be depending on what pick the Vikings would offer. I'd ship him off for a two and cover half of his contract. That would be a massive overpayment by the Vikings but it's not my problem. In the eventual situation that we are building with a new QB next year, we may need more picks.

People aren't saying the Vikings would do that. What those of us who are saying this, are saying, is that is the only way. If the Vikings don't bite, they don't bite. They shouldn't bite.

But you never say never to that number.
