Could probably get Jameis for pennies

He’s still QB3 in New York behind Wilson and Dart, and likely not moving up even if those guys flip spots. If he was cheap enough, I think he could be a decent fit here for a year or two (if we need him to start/mentor a new draft pick next year).

No doubt he throws a lot of interceptions and he’s definitely not a long-term solution.

But he also throws a lot of touchdowns, isn’t scared to push it down the field (T-Mac would eat), is built like an actual NFL quarterback, and has been beloved by his teammates in every locker room he’s been in.

If your goal is to utterly tank and get #1, you wouldn’t want Jameis. But for a guy who could spark something this season? I’d at least inquire.

I'd be for making a move for someone like Jameis or Howell and here's why... they've shown they can produce they've just had turnover issues. So bring them in so that we can better evaluate the rest of our offensive roster. If they fix their turnover issues then maybe we're not completely desperate for QB heading into the draft. If they don't, then we're gonna keep losing anyway so whatever.

Howell absolutely but not interested in Winston.  Would rather lose for another high set of picks personally

Don't even remotely want him. We of all fan bases should know exactly what he is by now.

At the worst case scenario he might play us out of drafting a QB and put us into QB limbo again with his erratic play.  I would honestly prefer to be either consistently good or consistently bad. Finishing near .500  doesn't really help anything.

I would hate to go back into that mode of cycling through mediocre veteran qbs again, because that's what I think would happen if we bring in Jameis Winston.

We do not need to bring in a random stop gap.  It accomplishes nothing.  This is Bryce's year to seal his fate.  Hes garbage all year then we draft his replacement.  Winning a couple more games with a temporary qb is pretty useless.

He needs to prove he is top QB and I don’t think that is coming.  Just ride with him until we find a replacement

    • Yeah I find myself flipping between the worst case scenario of Bryce either playing just mediocre enough for our decision makers to justify giving him a contract extension in their eyes because they want to justify drafting him. Or Bryce going back to playing poorly and us having no one else to fall back on because Pickett might be decent for one or two games but there's no one else and our locker room starts to get ugly because we went all in with our salary cap and guys careers are on the line. This scenario which IMO is the higher probability given our schedule and the amount of tape out there on Bryce is why I say if we can trade down and acquire a few more mid or late round picks we should draft a developmental QB. Not looking for a guy to be the savior but someone with the necessary physical tools and who could actually run a QB sneak. But we'll just have to see how it shakes out. I just want a competitive team but the last thing I want is the season to fall apart because we once again threw our arms up in regards to the QB room.
    • ^This. Rico was dynamite when we needed it last season, but not enough to keep but it massively upped his earning potential. It was a win-win for both sides. And he was there to cover the hole left by the injury to another RB, and hopefully his release to free agency means there's good news for us on the way. These new ones give us the opportunity to do that again, on the offensive line and elsewhere. We've got some long term question marks here and there due to injuries and age, and these players have a chance to up their value on the open market or settle down with us if the opportunity arises. And none of it ties us down with dead money down the road if it doesn't work out. And we've been in dead money hell for a decade now. Lease the ones you like, buy if you fall in love.
