Bryce Young will have a Brees career arc. I doubt it will be with the Panthers.

how can any panther fan, who saw brees poo on their defense several times for 1.5 decades, unironically say that bryce young is in the same stratosphere???

In fairness, early drew brees is similar to early bryce.  Watch his highlights from San diego, you'll see a lot of stuff 10-20 yards, not many deep passes, efficient but not elite. It all changed when he got to New Orleans with Sean Payton.

Fwiw, I don't think it'll happen and it's because brees was FAR MORE of a fiery competitor than bryce.  Brees would talk poo, he'd hype the huddle, and he rallied the guys a d part of that drive helps motivate himself to elevate his game.  Bryce is too much of a "oh shucks...well get em next time" guy.

Bryce will give you 5 or so "wow plays" versus 5 or so "WTF plays."  There's just a nuance to any discussion of Bryce.  There's a lot to be made of his physical limitations and his mental errors.  No matter what, Bryce is just so polarizing.

Bryce’s wtf plays are some of the worst things you’ll see on a Sunday.

his “wow” plays are like a 20 yard out route against a safety that blew his assignment.

the tyranny of low expectations is so damn real

Dude you’re talking about the nfl 25 years ago. Brees first full season was 2001. DBs could press for ten yards, defenders could hit qbs, they could land on them, they were allowed to still pursue them if they fell during their rush etc. This little dink and dunk, handoff to WR offense Bryce is in could not exist back then.

You’re comparing stats in an era where Bryce literally could not survive. You see how fast Bryce falls apart mentally now? what happens to Bryce the first time Tony siragusa pancakes him two seconds after he throws a check down?

Low expectations is a great point to bring up, I’ve seen a lot of people and panthers reporters say beating Miami saves Bryce’s job. If beating a pitiful Miami team is what it takes to save his job, how good is he?

JC not this ish again.

Brees:

80,000 career passing yards

5 seasons of 5,000+ yards

10 seasons of 30+ TD passes

Career completion percentage of 67.7%

37 games where he threw 4 TDs.

Best WRs were Colston, Thomas, Cooks, Lance Moore and TE Jimmy Graham/ Shockey. The only first rounder was Shockey (and Bush but he was a RB). Thomas was a stud... drafted with the 47th pick. That was the highest picked WR he threw to. 47th. Graham was a stud. Shockey was a stud. The rest of the receivers would have been jags on most other teams. Brees never had a first round WR to throw to.  Colston never even made a pro bowl. Oh, and no spygate to benefit from.

Prime Brees was UNBEATABLE in the dome. A bad day for Brees was 2 TDs. He was a 4d chess grand master.

Brees has a wallet that probably says bad mf’er. Bryce has a goofy ass backpack.

Listen, Drew Brees put up unreal numbers throwing to mostly jags in an era that highlighted running the ball, the receivers could get mugged and QBs got lit the f up on the regular without penalty. Hell, they went so far as to make a tv segment (jacked up!!!) to applaud the violence of the game. He never even had a first round WR. Brees was a better QB than Peyton Manning. There, I said it. Bro is on the short list for best QB ever.

This is facts with some of my own personal opinion mixed in, but mostly facts.  Those who keep pushing this narrative, did y’all actually watch Brees play? His game is in no way similar to Bryce’s. Brees on this team is a deep playoff contender and Tet would look like prime megatron.

Im sorry y’all, I know I sound like a complete homer, but when I hear hyperbole that is insultingly obtuse, it gets under my skin.

Can I just say that with all we've been through the last several years and how weak the division is now compared to how tough it was back then it disgusts me that we have to say nice things about Drew f*cking Brees because people try to use him to draw outrageous correlations to Bryce Young.

It’s painful man, trust me. Moments I’d rather not remember. NFC south used to be a dog fight after the Panthers shook it all up in 2003.

That stuff sets me off too because it is so disingenuous and lazy. Horrible take that was pasted all over this place in 2023.
Someone accused me of misinformation last week, about Bryce. I guess saying his arm and footwork were what they are.
But the Bryce is Brees stuff, now THAT is misinformation.

The only valid parallel I can see is they had problems with inside pressure  and needed the interior beefed up.

PS, you are right about the people he threw to. He made basketball guys into stars.

All of this I agree with but there is still a fact that remains that his PHYSICAL weaknesses are still the same physical weaknesses that Bryce has.  I literally said in the second part of my post that I dont think he'll turn the corner because he DOESNT have the fire and passion that Brees had/has which goes to exactly what you said in the bryce falling apart mentally.  That said on sheer look, if you go and watch the highlights of Brees from San Diego, they look a lot like the highlights of Bryce.

Summation, does he possess a lot of the physical traits and even some of the mental traits that Brees had?  Sure.  Will he get there?  I highly doubt it because it appears he spends too much time watching netflix and not enough time fixing the things he needs to improve on (IE sliding, deep ball, and Footwork).

This is also not true.

Brees deep ball even after his shoulder injury was still better than Bryce’s today. Brees weighed in at the combine at 213, and he didn’t need a month of the Panda Express diet to get there. He also threw at the combine which is something Bryce couldn’t do because of how fat he was.

There are a lot of whispers that Bryce played closer to 165 at Alabama, and I can’t imagine he’s heavier than 185 now. Those are not the same physical weaknesses, no matter how many times you say it.
