Run Rico and play stellar defense and we got a shot

We have an outside chance of being competitive against the Bills simply because our strength is running the ball and they're abysmal at defending the run. We're gonna have to grind it out and try to keep Josh Allen on the sidelines though. We're still struggling to rush the passer and Allen will probably eat. Catching the Bills coming off of a bye week following a disappointing loss is a pretty shitty draw though. We'll see...

2027 5th rounder for Jameis, time to pull the trigger on this one, we should have done it in the offseason anyways.

He'll lose us games, but he's also one of the few QB's in the league who will be able to expedite the growth of T-Mac, XL, Coker, Horn Jr, Sanders, and Evans

Chucking 25+ INT's isn't as conducive to growth as you think.

A QB throwing INT's has no bearing on the growth of his pass catchers, it just kills a team's chances of winning games.

For all his problems as a QB, Jameis still has one of the strongest arms in the league and is also one of the most fearless throwers of the ball as well (which is part of his problem).  Our WRs and TEs would get peppered with targets at all levels, something Bryce isn't able to do and I don't think Dalton necessarily has it left in him anymore either.

THAT would 100% expedite their growth, there's no question about it.

Yeah, I can see this happening 100%

Yep, exact same thing as last year, fans and the team will see the Wins, remember he "lead game winning drives" (despite him not even throwing a pass on some of those drives), and forget how he actually looked in those games and the paltry passing numbers he put up in them.

Then they'll say "well we had a winning record before he got hurt and then the high ankle sprain affected his play the rest of the season and was the reason he struggled, so when he's healthy next year, he'll be great again"

This has disaster written all over it

It won't lead to wins but it'll give our WRs a chance to do something other than 10 yard routes.

Certainly but the TO prone guys also tend to take the wind out of the sails of their teammates in pretty quick fashion.

Certainly wouldn't argue they will get many more chances, especially since we would be pretty far behind in most of our matchups. Not gonna argue against Winston's ability either.

I don’t think the growth of these guys is likely getting as stunted as you assume. As stated above, the morale issue is likely going to weigh heavier on them than you think.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
