So, Is Bryce Playing this Week or Nah?

I don’t understand what they’re doing. Our approach to injuries is weird now.

It isn’t the same for the QB. Super over protective it looks like.

The side of me that says him playing with no injury excuses is crucial to the goal of honestly evaluating him, accepts it.

I think it is as simple as Bryce feels better than expected and could play if he needed to.  Canales is being coy so the Bills have to prepare for two QBs and I like the gamesmanship.  No way that Bryce plays unless he practices.

well, this dude at least said it.  Nothing adds up with his injury just like it didn’t last time he was “hurt”.  QBs play with very mild ankle issues.   Tons of examples this year alone.

I think Dave had an excuse to see Andy this week and is using it.  D is improved.  Run game on point.   Team is close to being competitive, it just needs more pop from the passing game.   Home game vs the Bills.  If you can get a little juice from the pass attach you might turn a corner.

It being nothing doesn’t square with the taking him from the game last week though.
Something happened.
Maybe the normal over protectiveness last week did allow a crack in the door to stick Andy’s foot in.

I took so much absolute poo last week for saying that the two times Andy came in in week three were noticeably different, but it was true. You don’t need stats to help you see it.
The offensive thing comes down to protecting him and is his arm still limber.
If both of those things cooperate I expect to see a repeat of what happened in Seattle 2023  Las Vegas 2024 as far as how the offense looks.
We have more talent around the QB now also.

So we are just pretending like Dalton’s games against the Bears and Commanders didn’t happen immediately after they had one game of film of him in our offense? Chuba was averaging 7.5 yards a carry that Bears game and Dalton still played horribly.

Our whole identity is pretending the past didn't happen.  This is par for the course.

First reaction to that is what would he have done so out of the ordinary that film study would shut him down? He is the standard PA pocket QB. It wasn’t exotic or mysterious exactly.

I don’t think his declining effectiveness was as much the film study as it was a combination of he can’t hold up to the hits and we lost AT in Vegas game I think and the rest of the WR was not that great and there some other shuffles that hurt the OL continuity. General issues that would have affected whoever was playing.
It seemed to degrade by the week.
Without going back and verifying anything to refresh the memory that is what I’ve got.

I mean he got stepped on one play.   I'm sure it hurt.  He certainly looks fine.  QBs have suited up all season w/ grade one ankles and looked worse off than Bryce during the week.

Bryce didn't play well.  He hasn't in most games this year.  That's sort of overlooked with the record. .  Canales really needs to find some direction when his 3rd season hits.  I think he is using a dinged up ankle to get a look at things with a different style passer and where we are.

I do not think any coaching staff has been all in on Bryce Young.  We have seen examples of them not being every year thus far.

They don't want him playing on that ankle.  NFL QBs do that.  And he certainly looks like he could do what so many have done this year.  What we haven't see this year, is a more aggressive passer with probably the best cast to pull it off.

Dalton wasn't seen in Canales's offense.  It was actually a first read offense design for him to get the ball out quickly.   The Bears seemed to know what the first read was going to be a week later and Dalton completely poo the bed even with Chuba playing great.  He look better the next week and completely awful against the Commanders after that.  When you trot out a new QB it can throw off a defense (especially a bad defense in LV).  Think Kyle Allen, Derek Anderson, All the Fitzmagic, Mike White with the Jets (new Panther shout out), Willis last year in GB, hell look at Flacco just ball out with the Bengals (do you think that will keep happening?) etc when they came in off the bench.  Dalton's only lasted one game and poof the "magic" was gone.

OL continuity is unfortunately just part of it.  I'm not sure we have rolled out the same starting 5 all year.  From Icky in week 1, to Moton in week 6, Lewis last week, plus Hunt/Corbs missing multiple weeks.

If your analysis is fact we won’t learn anything this week either I guess.
I remember a lot of people saying Dalton was washed as he went through those games. I suppose it was really a combination of many things film included.

edit: I mean, the Raiders had a bad defense too. Washington and Chicago were both better there I think, without refreshing the memory with their rankings.

No, but a washed Dalton's primary weapon was the basket case named Dionte Johnson who I think was traded like a week after those games.  2 rookies and THE David Moore.

QBs are going to have a bit of rollercoaster ride when that's what you are working with (especially meh QBs).  Some bad weeks are going to be part of it.   And Dalton gave folks a mixed bag.

think what Andy is going to show you is glimpses of what a different style QB can potentially give you.  But Andy is old and washed.  Expecting good and complete games from him isn't really where he is at.
