Nic Scourton On Panthers' Culture

We had people on this board doing it.  Suggesting we rest Dowdle because the Saints were so bad.  It is human nature, but totally up to the coach to keep the focus especially in a divisional game.  You see this happen all the time in sports.  It is where the term "trap game" comes from.  I put this on Canales if it is true.

To a degree you have a point but with divisional matchups if the franchise is going to turn the corner this should never happen. Especially with our most bitter rival at home.

I honestly think it might have been some of the coaching staff but I doubt a rookie is calling coaches out so I don't know. All the goofing off about 2 pumps and victory Monday looks really bad now

I also think it was the coaching staff. The culture starts at the top. Canales bringing in Keegan Michael Key during a team meeting seems like a goofy distraction when the offense struggled to score any points and honestly scored 0 legit points if it weren’t for a LUCKY roughing the passer penalty.

21 year old rookie might already be one of our best leaders. DB and Horn are better and have the respect, but love Scourton so far.

Yea I agree I gotta give it to Morgan for finally drafting a player who might develop and become a good player with the team. After years of Scott Fitterer’s garbage I’m hopeful they’re drafting at least a few players who will last more than 2 years on the team.

The whole Keegan Michael Key thing is being over blown. It was a 2 minute zoom call. Rico's celebration etc. was like a half an hour distraction.  A little bit of levity every now and then isn't the end of the world. I'm not even that mad at the Victory Monday. They won a tough game on the road and Rico and the oline were getting banged up pretty good. However, if there was a lackadaisical lack of preparation, that's on DC for not getting on that ass. Also, I cringe whenever I hear "leadership council." This is the NFL, not camp Wakanda.

All it takes is a 2 minute zoom call to set the tone of seriousness for the week. Facts are the Rico celebration could’ve easily cost us the game but we decided to glamorize it instead. Came off like we’re not a serious franchise who are just happy to be talked about for once.

JT Sanders calling it out.

So that makes Ekwonu, Sanders, and Scourton. Young guys, calling out effort and behavior.

Apologies if this has already been shared.

Any of the Dave Canales stans.....this is as big of a red flag as you could have. It took multiple seasons of Mike McDaniels to start seeing this type of poo pop up. Now we are getting it 1.5 seasons into his tenure here.

It's all over, boys. This guy is already losing the team and somehow managing to do it while winning.

What frustrates me is that there were several commenters on this site saying this was a “trap game.” If the fans can see it why should the coaching staff not prepare the team better? Mind boggling.

Yeah, this "Leadership Council" thing is highly suspect. It feels like a head coach, once again, wanting to be buddies with everyone and not step on any toes.

I don't have an issue with a players coach like Ron was a players coach. He had their backs but he also was a strong cultural influence, as well. Also didn't have an issue with getting heated, calling people out, etc.

Now his version of accountability was sometimes dubious but....

There have been very few teams who have ever been 100% locked in every week, you're talking about 2007 Patriots or 95-96 Bulls type of teams there.

Us in '15 ..maybe not the Falcons game though.. but even as good as we were in '15 I dont remember us getting quite the recognition as we got this year being 5-4. Maybe it was our SOS that year, I do remember the "yall ain't played nobody yet" narrative.
