I agree with OP.  I don’t have total heartburn with DC but the BY portion is a bitter pill to swallow.

But it goes back to bringing in competition  and not ruling out anyone in the draft. Fifth year option or not he isn’t the future IMO, but he might be the least worst option.

I'm not predicting anything past next season.

Winning has that effect

Not just winning but winning a game like this.  We had no business being close to this team.  Defense was short handed, online hurt, against the best team in the NFL?  That, might I mention just dominated TB?  Yea, hats off to DC and the entire team.  Perfect game plan and execution!

They might pick up the 5th year option, but I almost guarantee there will be a plan B on the roster next year that isn’t named Andy Dalton.

Definitely.

I agree it won't be Dalton.

Not sure it'll be competition.

Why do you post this now? We still have 4 games left and have a shot at this division. We got up like this before the NO game. We lose out Tampa, no one is going to remember that we beat the Rams.

The other not for all the “it’s a given”, Bryce was the first pick. His 5th year will be $40M+. That's not some cheap year.

Because I think we've passed the tipping point.

And the kind of disaster that itbwould likely te to knock us off this course doesn't feel realistic.

    • I love the linemen. Intrigued by the idea of Brazzell but a little skeptical  No opinion of the others
    • I'll say the same thing this year that I said last year, wins and losses aren't important. The only important thing is coming to a decision on Bryce one way or the other.  If he looks amazing but we find ways to lose, who cares we lost, we have our QB of the future.  If he looks terrible but we find ways to win, who cares that we won, we have to replace him. And that's not me saying I don't want to see us win next year, just saying that wins/losses are secondary and far less important this season than coming to a 100% conclusion on what Bryce is for us. Having said that, the only way I'll be okay with giving him an extension instead of replacing him is if he is a borderline MVP candidate and at minimum, an unquestioned Top 10 QB in the league next year. Even just a season of slight improvement won't be enough for me, that's still not good enough to warrant a big extension, he has the team around him, he needs to show why he was the #1 overall pick, if not, good bye.
