Chubba's Touchdown

Recommended Posts

I've watched this highlight several times.  So many people want to criticize Young because he's doesn't throw down the field very much.  However, if you watch this highlight and focus on the ball placement, It's a perfect throw.  He leads Hubbard perfectly.  He hits him in stride.  He's full speed in a moment.

If he throws it too far in front he probably doesn't catch it or loses his balance enough that he gets tackled.   Too far behind and he has to slow down a bit and doesn't get up to speed in time to score.

Bryce pinpoints a perfect throw, and Hubbard blows by everyone and scores.

It was a great play.

As my daughter says that OA.  Bryce is pretty good at ball placement.

He really isn’t. He’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen at it. People like to whine about drops but most of the times receivers get a finger on the ball and someone screeches it was a drop it’s because it was way high, low, behind, ahead of, anywhere other than placed well. That includes these screens and dump offs. He just happened to throw this one well.

Opinion

Every touchdown he threw yesterday were pin point money passes.  He's had several passes this season that have been money shots.

This is the frustrating part.  He sometimes does it but most of the time doesnt.

Agreed, however there are many QBs that don't place it perfectly.

This is a really weird thread to make when we have abundant examples of Bryce missing routine throws to the flat.

He's made some good throws but there's a reason he is bottom of the league thru his career in YPA and YPG.

Happy for him yesterday and really hope he builds on it!

Yeah it was a great throw, but also, he's an NFL quarterback lol we should expect this regularly

there are many NFL QB who don't make that pass perfectly on every attempt. We even seen Mr Young attempt it many times and he has been low, high, behind, or too far in front. It takes time and practicing it over and over to get it right.  Maybe he is finally starting to understand the art of throwing. Josh Allen didn't get better till his 3rd year in the league, and it was his 4th year it all came together for him. Even Drew and Baker weren't great QB's at the start.

each of the last 3 seasons, he has been top 10 in bad throw %.   But to his credit this season he isn’t the leagues worst/leader like the prior 2.

I think ball placement is one of his biggest weaknesses to date. I think a lot of it is a vision/footwork issue in reality.

According to Pro Football Reference advanced stats, Bryce Young is currently 9th in on-target percentage. Take that for what you will I suppose.

Bryce hasn't been so terrible that we have to act like a routine screen pass was some grand achievement.
