Evero is growing on me as DC

I think he leaves next season. It's just a question of how.

If he stays or if he leaves, do you think it'd be a Dan/Dave decision, or (let's hope not) would Tepper have a hand in that say-so?

(Still on the hopeful "tepper has been staying out of football operations" train)

Between the influx of talent (Moehrig, Turk, Rosebloom, Ransom, Scourton, Princely, Jackson, Wallace, Brown III)

 keeping talent healthy - Horn

and the return of his all pro DT- Brown

he’s starting to put together a masterclass on defense

minus the Bills game the defense has done enough to get the team in winnable opportunities (SF and NO come to mind)

and he’s doing this without a certified edge yet

I’m in favor of letting this man cook, he makes second half adjustments as he gets a feel for the game

That's what most rational people was saying with all the complaining about the D when we all knew we had no talent except for a few players since we spent it all on offense.

I don't know how much it will be anyone's decision inside the organization. It's basically all on Evero. His contract is up. If he wants to return, then it will come down to if an offer is made to him.

I would assume that would be a Tepper decision because he was the one who hired him.

He isn’t in any of the HC conversations this year but he was a couple of years ago. I can see Tepper trying to resign him due to the improvement this season and wanting the 3rd round picks if he gets hired somewhere else.

The coaching candidates are weak as hell this year, Evero may think he has a chance at a job or can backfill a DC of a contender if they leave for a HC job.

BUT this also gives Dave and Dan an opportunity to bring in their guy, so will be interesting to see.

Yeah, I think after Bryce the Evero situation is the most interesting one for us headed into the offseason.

I like Evero.

with the mismanagement of draft picks and an entire offseason last year dedicated to helping prop Bryce up; I don’t think there’s a coordinator in the league who was given less to work with than him.

He’s definitely gone though. Not being under contract this late into a turnaround year and coupled with the fact that we blocked him from interviewing is all the writing on the wall I need to see.

What KFD said...

I believe Tepper is mostly staying out of football management (KFD and others disagree) and I hope it stays that way.

But he did do some meddling within a recent enough window that there may still be some effects.

Evero is part of that discussion.

I don’t care who was DC they were not going to have a chance they way the defense was neglected for the better part of three years.

Get him some more talent. Or whoever is DC.

As far as Evero, why go sideways when you have almost gotten a thing built? Tepper can’t stop him from taking a HC gig, and if I were him - unless I really hated it here - I’d wait for the HC opportunity.

Continuity is super important and we haven’t had it for years now, but are getting some.  Try to keep it.

Went sideways on many successful defensive coaches after a a couple years of inconsistency. They never got a break after getting to championship games and winning the division title. Where's the logic in staying with a struggling defensive coach for half a decade?

Capers. Fangio, Seifert, Fox, Rivera, Wilks. Why does Evero get half a decade of chances when these other coaches were tossed after a year or two of struggles while already proving their success as a DC/HC?

I slotted the Panthers for a 6 win season and expected needed changes before another fall. If the Panthers can't beat Saints, Seahawks and Bucs, then changes need to be made. This is the 4 game stretch that determines the future of the team. All are must win games (maybe one loss to the Bucs will be allowed with a 10 win record), but no one deserves a long term contract with their track record.

Panthers had every right to fire him after he fielded the worst D in (scoring) NFL.

He's done a good job and its not easy with all the new players.

Im here now- If he stays, that's fine and if he leaves, that's fine too.

Plus that DJ Johnson sink is still in the hair, along with many of "former" players....Nick Scott is playing better tho, but the eye for talent and tiny sack number numbers...... Still good enough to help the Panthers win more than they have.
