I really think Bryce has been given so much time due to what they've put around him. In a vacuum, he hasn't been good enough. But I think we tend to be overly judgemental with him because he's our QB. Every fan base does it. You see every mistake, not just the highlights/lowlights. I've listened to Cowboys fans crap on Dak and Ravens fans crap on Lamar.

How many WRs from Bryce's rookie season are still making plays today? Probably a few starting olinemen from that year are out of the league too. Hell even his HC is out of the NFL and his OC is a TE coach right now. How many WRs from last season, Bryce's second year (other than the rookies) are making plays in the NFL today? And now in his third year, he's been passing to rookies and second year players. And the only one that was highly touted was TMac. Heck Coker wasn't even drafted, and he's easily been the second best receiver on the team. And let's not even get started on how bad the defense has been. When a team is constantly playing from behind, and/or being ran off the field (time of possession), it greatly impacts the offense's chemistry and playcalling. Look at the young QBs that are playing well right now. All of those teams have great defenses. Houston, Denver, Patriots, Cleveland, even the Saints defense has been on a bit of a tear recently.

I agree he needs to be more consistent. But to be fair, so does his supporting cast. He had some horrible fumbles early in the season. I beat him up over that just like everyone else. But we wouldn't have said that if it was Stafford. We would have rightly blamed it on the oline for allowing jail breaks when they weren't even outnumbered on blitzes, and to top it off he was throwing to a bunch of young receivers. He killed teams for blitzing him the end of last season. I don't think he forgot what to do. I think his receivers didn't know what to do. They were all young and new, other than XL, and DCs exploited that. The team is developing right now. And amazingly Bryce is playing better. Funny how that works. Let's just enjoy the ride and see where it takes us. Getting there is half the fun, and the team is actually ahead of schedule.

I think some of that, how many from 2023 still making plays thought.....ties into what the vision was.  I mean, before Bryce Young took a week 1 snap, it was universally deemed the best place for any rookie QB to land.  The reason of that was because on paper, it all made a lot of sense.  A solid yet unspectacular HC.  Surround the rookie with a stable of super safe vet JAGs that could all do what they were supposed to do for the young QB (safe vet JAGs don't have much of a career ahead of them).  I think they tried to create a high floor, low ceiling start for Bryce to take off from.....and it just didn't work.

On paper it made a lot of sense.  Which most locally and nationally all thought too.  I still think the fatal flaw, is Frank didn't want Bryce.  And Bryce was never going to succeed being a Frank QB.  And that's all Frank had in the bag.

I think the biggest reason is the level of investment we made in him. Of he was a mid-round pick I'm not sure he would've been in the roster after his rookie season. If he was a run if the mill 1st rounder I thi k we wpulsve been looking hard to move on this past offseason. Even if he was a regular #1 overall pick I think there would've been at least legit competition brought in this past offseason. I honestly think we've been caught in a sunk cost fallacy trap for tmthree years now.

I just wonder how far it was into his rookie TC that the concerning glances at each other started happening between the coaches as the raw talent issue became undeniably prevalent.

Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either.

Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said.

Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.

You aren't having a debate. You literally haven't said anything other than in "your eyes" he isn't better. Then some rando gave you your second data point. I mean....how about this, have you watched any of his games this year?

If I said yes, would you believe me? 😄

    • Right...I think they've done really well. No one's going to bat 1000% but they've addressed areas of need and there's no comparison to the overall talent of the team now than when DC and then Morgan got the reigns. This whole season is about seeing how much of a step up can Bryce and this team make. If Bryce can't and last year is as good as it gets for him then at least we have a talented roster for the next guy. I think we're going to be good this season
    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
