Scot, I’ve watched his full games.🤣. Since college.  I’m aware of the perceived weaknesses and flaws.  Yet, we have/had a front office full of paid football professionals who “full game” scouted Bryce Young and thought he was worthy of the #1 overall pick.  We also have a faction of our fanbase that, even when presented with a better option at QB, choose to keep believing in Bryce Young despite the fact that even with his occasional Atlanta games, or how he played against the Rams, he is still the statistically worst starting QB in the NFL since he’s been at the helm.

So, it can’t be based off play or scouting.  So what is it based off of?

For others? Don't know. I can't speak for them.

As far as our experts picking Bryce, come on, dude. You know how that went down just as well as I do. You should also know that a good number of the people who were part of that decision (GM, Director of College Scouting, others) are no longer employed here. And the one guy who pretty much everyone believes disagreed with the decision was given his waking papers even before they were.

I could make an argument that level of success sometimes masks deficiencies in play (i.e. Alabama quarterbacks) but even that argument is kind of pointless because we all know how Bryce got here.

His attitude issues are well documented. I was a big fan of the situation when he and dad went to Colorado. It was the way the treated people that turned me off from them.

Maybe he's been humbled. Maybe he will be good. He's not coming here so I dont know why it's such an ongoing topic.

I cant stress how easily narratives can be created for anybody to sway public opinion and professional careers just based how you rub off on people. If someone doesnt like you purposely they can make it harder for you depending on their status especially in sports and entertainment that easy.  The day we get passed this as a society the better off we will be.

It's based primarily off of cope. He plays just well enough jest often enough for them to cling to hope because swallowing that bitter pill of admitting that trade up was a huge blunder is gonna be a tough one. But not nearly as tough as the one we'd have to eventually choke down if we extended him to a franchise QB contract.

From the fan perspective I think it's a mix of not wanting to be wrong and the fact that Bryce seems like a legitimately decent guy that you wanna root for.

Me? 🤔

Where would you get the idea I'm "clinging to hope" or disagreeing that the trade up to take Bryce was a huge mistake?

It was a massive mistake. It set us back years as a franchise. If it were up to me, I'd prefer to put it in the  rear view mirror and move on...

...but I don't realistically see that happening.

I didn't specifically mean you. I was just talking about the Panthers' brass and pro-Bryce fans in general.

Gotcha. I asked because PD was responding to me in the post you quoted.

I'm definitely not "pro Bryce" but I've accepted that he's probably the starter here for at least next year... possibly the year after also.

Murray isn't, and he's likely out of a job at season's end.

Brissett? Haven't seen enough but I know he's not getting starter offers. Pretty good backup though.

Murray is not only better than Bryce but fairly significantly so.

Both of those QB's have had significantly better careers to date and are still better QB's than Bryce.

Pick the statistical category and I bet Murray is statistically better over his career than Bryce. Completion percentage, yards, TDs, TD:INT ratio, YPA, YPG, rushing yards and TDs, winning percentage, whatever. I bet it's Murray in a clean sweep. He's just frustrating because it's obvious he could be significantly better if he maximized his talent.

Statistically perhaps...

Better quarterback? Disagree.

For whatever you think of the Panthers decision making, there's at least an argument to be made for Bryce continuing to start.

Murray is gonna be looking for work, and I seriously doubt any other team is going to offer him a starting job. Also haven't really seen anyone suggesting Arizona should keep him.

I mean...I would love to hear any sort of logic of how Murray could possibly be construed as a worse QB than Bryce.

How are you basing it? If not statistically, winning percentage? Well, I have bad news for your argument.

So are we going, what, eye test? Well, I have even worse news than the last news.

So after that what remains?

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
