His injuries occurred from the pocket.

Sadly,  when it comes to football, I think all hits are cumulative. And Cam took his share and certainly gave  more hits than any other QB I've ever seen.  The man left it all on the field, for sure.

It's a rough, rough way to make a living.

Shoulder, yes, but my point was that his superman style was going to catch up on him. Players don’t take that kind of hammering and play twenty years. A true pocket passer that can protect themselves has a far greater chance of having a lengthy playing career.

I know you're referring to Cam's running but having watched both players' long careers I can tell you right now Brett Favre took wayyyyyy more of a beating over the years than Cam did in his career. And yet he has probably the most ridiculous record in all of sports with his ironman streak. Injuries come down to luck and genetics more than playstyle. Allen plays the same way Cam did and has been one of the healthiest QBs in the league with no signs of that changing any time soon.

Favre got himself a nice Vicodin habit out of the Ironman attitude.
And he isn’t alone. Occupational hazard.

I wonder what he was getting injected with when he had an ankle or knee or maybe a couple of fingers were real messed up.

Cam was very reliant on being one of the best athletes on the field. His athleticism was a huge part of his success. Favre took a beating, sure, but he relied on his arm. Did Cam evolve enough as a passer for that to be his go to rather than his athleticism?

Cam’s rookie season was his only above 4k and his MVP was the only season above 30 passing TDs. Josh Allen plays in a similar way, but he has been far more prolific as a passer and should age pretty well if his athleticism starts to wane. I’m not sure how Cam would have faired had his athleticism started to regress.

Ridiculous take from someone who never watched our offense consistently. Rivera and Shula held Cam back as a passer, he never relied on his athleticism.

Incorrect, I have watched us consistently over quite a number of years. When I say Cam relied on athleticism, I simply mean his dual threat style and athleticism overshadowed the deficiencies in the passing game (his own or those created by the system).

Now I wouldn’t disagree that our OCs over that time were not amazing and arguably held him back, but correct me if I’m wrong, Cam had a habit of locking onto his receivers and overthrowing them. Gettleman even drafted two big receivers - Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess - to give Cam receivers with a big catch radius.

Again, correct me if I’m wrong, but Cam had some mechanical issues. For example, the reliance on arm strength over touch and his footwork often led to him throwing off the back foot. There were many debates on these boards about his mechanics, with far more knowledgeable posters than I braking down what he needed to improve on.

End of the day, I was as big a Cam fan as the next person, but he did have his shortcomings as a passer. Had he played under someone like Sean McVay or a similar offensive guru, with a high quality QB coach, then I’m sure they would have ironed out the kinks and he would have been far more dangerous and successful than he was. And that’s a scary thought of what he could have been under the likes of a McVay!

    • This whole thing is sooooooooo dumb, why any of this is an ongoing news story is ridiculous. There are only 2 people who should actually care about this, his wife and her husband. Affairs happen, not that I'm saying it's okay to cheat, but at worst, the only "bad thing" that could be coming around from this affair is that information was passed between them, the same type of info that any coach and journalist who are friends may share with each other to help the other out. The Patriots shouldn't care as long as it doesn't affect his focus on the team.  And those saying that he's lost the locker room and their respect over the "lying" have to be fooling themselves.  Half the players in that locker room are more than likely actively or previously have cheated on their significant other.  So it's not like they're looking at him saying, "what a liar and terrible person, I can't trust him as my coach anymore"
    • Seriously?!?! First SNF game of the year and it's two teams that didn't make the playoffs last year? I thought they always made that Week 1 SNF game a banger with two great teams from the previous season. EDIT:  Just looked, last year was Bills-Ravens, previous season was Lions-Rams, Giants-Cowboys ironically before that (but both coming off the playoffs).  From what I can tell, this will be the first time since 2020 that SNF's week 1 game isn't 2 teams from the playoffs the year before, and the Cowboys were in that one too, against the Rams who also didn't make it the year before.
