What will likely happen with this team moving forward….

Even if we bring in competition for Young, they will have to be great in order to unseat Young as a starter due to Tepper and the FO`s love for him. Idk if there would be any significant upgrades we could bring in that wouldnt put us in a bid war to unseat him. I think Bryce gets another year as starter and after another mediocre to below average year, Morgan will give him an extension to keep him here for at least another 2 years.

Lots of people have no idea just how disastrous the Young pick was. It will be a decade long`s worth of destruction to this franchise.

While I agree the Bryce tradeup and pick was disastrous, what else can we do at this point but hope he figures it out. Even if we doubt he ever will.

Man, my journey has been he was a poor choice in the beginning, that he has struggled and that now we're stuck in a situation where a few good games might either be just luck or that he's actually better than advertised but stuck in some really timid playcalling.

And I've said this time and time again, his ceiling is probably as a quality back-up QB. Still, for all that Darnold sucks, stuff, the guy will be on his couch watching games not because his team is out of the playoffs, but because he's led a team to first place in the conference and earned a bye. And the year before, he took a Vikings team to the playoffs after their season seemed over at the very beginning. Maybe he doesn't suck, at least anymore.

With Bryce, there's a good chance of either buyer's or seller's remorse. A poor pick from the beginning, matched up with bad coaching and a poorly built team behind him. He's a nice kid, good head on his shoulders and full of heart, but he might not have the force of will and stature to make it as a starting QB.

Still, he gets however many games coming up that he can earn for this season. Maybe one and done, at least that's what the odd makers will say.

History has a funny way of showing who Darnold is. They are winning in spite of him down the stretch and not because of it. It's the same meltdown he had last year in similar situations. You will see.

For Bryce, I hope we don't have to watch him fail for another full season. I don't think Panthers fans deserve to watch bottom tier QB play every Sunday. We have had three seasons of it.

What we need next year is a good, old fashioned quarterback controversy. If we get a capable back up. They’ll probably get a shot at some point.

if we roll out the red rocket again, next year will probably look exactly like last year without the luck/division win.

This team being ahead of schedule overall has a lot of yall tweaking. Year 2 of Canales we're in the playoffs.  Let that sink in. 2 years of increase in wins. We're right where we need to be, not firing a coach that is obviously growing into and with the position. Yes I know we are pessimistic as a default as a true panthers fan we've had our hope trampled and disfigured. But damn, just try smiling for 5 minutes before projecting next year

It is hard to say, but if you look at the contracts for next year, we have our core in place--

Free agency:  Re-sign Mays.  Not elite, but 26 and solidly mediocre.  Everyone can't be a star, but he his consistent.   Sign ERFA Jalen Coker to a deal.   Dowdle?  sign him if you can, but he probably walks.  Re-sign Rozeboom (depth) and sign or draft a starting #2 WR.

Draft:  Great draft for Edges (day 2 especially) and ILB.  If we could address both spots, the defense should be solid.

CB is strong in the draft.

I think we need to draft a QB later (Mateer is my crush right now)

Seriously, if we could upgrade WR (#2 with Coker by signing a slot or by signing a #2), TE (Tremble came on strong and Sanders is a bit goofy--Evans was solid at times.  If we get one, he needs to be elite), Edge (Princely showed some signs and Scourton is a beast.  A pass rushing specialist in round 2 would be nice).  ILB--I really like a few of them that could be there in the third or later:  York (Tex AM), Hill (Texas) and Weeks (LSU).

So I think we could be solid with an offseason of careful choices

Idk that was an odd walk. He’s either getting very old all of a sudden, or actually needed to take a massive poo. He was walking with his feet sideways

Tepper looks like he is really out of shape and needs to hit the gym and lose weight,

What SHOULD happen and what WILL happen are 2 totally different things especially when you have a dick of an owner not knowing what he's doing running a NFL organization.  He SHOULD replace Canales, he SHOULD redo the QB room fully, he SHOULD stay out of day to day running of the team.

WILL he? NO. We will be stuck with a rinse and repeat cycle next year until he eventually gets lucky and picks the right coach for the job.  Zero faith at this point for the front office not named Dan Morgan.  Morgan is the only one IMO to show he learns from his mistakes and actually has a vision for the future.

Tepper only interested in money which is understandable being a money hungry douche and being a NFL owner your guaranteed revenue stream isn't going anywhere.

You might be over-valuing some of our players just a bit.

I would let Rico walk unless he would want something similar to his deal this year. He's just about that age where the advice is to back off of running backs. Great year. Good contributor. Responsible for a couple of wins we would not have gotten. Thanks a bunch.

Guys, 2 years ago it looked like we were a decade away from competing

in a week were hosting a playoff game

there isnt anyone on this board that wouldnt have taken that 2 years ago, regardless of the circumstances

we might have a few wins we stole but we also wouldnt lose to Arizona again, gave the SF game away, choked both Saints games and last night got hosed by officiating

if we somehow steal a win against the Rams again theres no way you count a divisional round appearance (and possibly beyond) as a failed season

my biggest fear with this team right now is stagnation & they will remain much as the same & make very little changes to a team that is in all actuality not a playoff caliber team..just saying

having a losing record is normally always considered a failed season in the NFL &  winning the weakest division in the NFL with a losing record is called luck ...just saying

    • The only other position group I could think of is ILB since Dan was there for Rodriguez and Hill Jr. pro days in Texas. It’s one of the reasons I get the feeling ILB could be the pick at 19.
    • Nobody is saying we don't need it, just that we have bigger needs elsewhere, and that type of WR is actually something that is often found in the mid rounds, you just have to scout and evaluate properly. Here's another way of looking at why WR in the 1st shouldn't even be considered an option. Looking only at players currently on the team, what position group would you feel strongest about 4 years from now? I'm not sure there is a better answer there than WR, as you have to think T-Mac is our best player on the team in 4 years (Brown is the only current player I think there is even an argument to be made over T-Mac there), with Coker not far behind. Our OL is too old to be considered, my opinions on Bryce is well known, Hubbard will be done by then and the rest of the RB is an unknown, Off-ball LB is maybe our biggest need, we only have 1 legit safety, it's certainly not TE, and our 2nd best CB right now will be 33 by then.   Brown should still be a beast as he'll only be 31, but nobody else on the DL projects to be that good in 4 years.  Edge rusher with Phillips, Scourton, and Princely is probably the only other possible answer than WR. So yes, that fast/shifty type of WR is 100% a need of ours, but we have so many other bigger needs both in the immediate and future, that to me, taking a WR in the 1st for the 3rd year in a row and having hit on another WR in the same time frame, just makes zero sense both currently and looking into the future.
    • Laughing at Slayton (Mooney or Calvin Austin III), but telling me that Coker is the next best thing since sliced bread...You laughing at Theo Johnson in reference to our guys too? LOL No one in their right mind thinks Nabers is anything but a stud (definitely top 10 if not 5 potential). You do realize that Thomas was in a new system with a furst-time coach last year (with a questionable QB to boot)? And yet still, it's possible that he eclipses even T-mac (not saying that he will). They didn't even mention Travis Hunter. In any event, we're not in the top half. Draft another legit receiver, and we will be.
