"Speculation around the league" that we've reached out to John Harbaugh

Dave finished the year weak and as for the 8 wins we'll if anyone in the division wasn't terrible then it would have been 2 6 win teams and a 12 win team. All of the 8-9 teams would have been 6 win teams if they weren't playing each other.

Dave hasn't earned jack other than a participation trophy that Atlanta gave him.

The real gem in this year's coaching cycle is Brian Flores. If we moved off of Canales (which is highly unlikely) that would be who I would go after. It's been shown plenty of times that in this age of the NFL your HC needs to be an elite play caller. Whether that be offense or defense they have to be able to keep continuity on one side of the ball.

If you have an old school CEO type of HC you run the risk of your coordinators getting poached every offseason and seeing your team decline as it's tuff to fine good coordinators who will stick around.

Ask Lions fans if they would rather have Ben Johnson or Dan Campbell

Ask Tampa fans if they would rather have Liam Cohen/Dave Canales or Todd Bowles

Ask Raven fans if they would rather have Mike McDonald or John Harbaugh

Tepper can't fire canales after he takes a two win team to the playoffs in his first two years.

The time line just doesn't add up.. Like drake maye being our qb.

Sucks but what can we do

He can. Marty Schottenheimer, John Fox and Tony Dungy all got fired after making the playoffs.

It's not about what you can or can't do. It's about recognizing when what you are doing isn't working. Optics are irrelevant if you know you have a path to success.

But, as many have stated, John Harbaugh is a smart guy. Smart enough to never consider working for David Tepper.

Yeah as much as I have my doubts about Canales, firing a coach after making playoffs with where this team was at 2 years ago would be the last nail in Tepper’s coffin as far as finding people willing to take a job here

Regardless of how we got here and our record in one win games and how quickly this can easily revert back to a 5 win team, big picture wise there’s no way you can fire Canales now

Did you not forget how badly Flores worked out in Miami? Shades of Josh McDaniels. Some people are just better as coordinators.

As some one who spends a ton of time in Detroit, almost no one up there would get rid of Dan Campbell for Ben Johnson. He is a beloved figure and for good reason.

Tampa fans are probably dumb enough and on enough drugs to want Canales back.

i thought Canales has a 6 year contract .   the main problem with this team is the QB .   You don't fire the head coach because of a QB not drafted by him .  Let him pick his QB then decide if he goes or not .  Canales is not a bad coach and will only get better with time .

Those nails are already driven through the bottom of the coffin with the constant turnover, the way he treated a very respected guy in Frank Reich and all of the ample amounts of talking in the coaching community about how bad of an owner he is.

The righting of that ship will likely not happen.

Also, it's very likely we will revert back to that 5 win team next year.

Meh Reich’s time had passed. It’s not like people in the NFL were lining up to  hire him after we let him go. Firing Frank was justified it’s unfortunate it came after a string of other firings and a mess dating back to when Tepper bought the team

Yeah it’ll be interesting to see what we do next year. We have a lot of holes. Not a lot of cap. We’re in dire need of a top tier edge rusher. An ILB. A deep threat WR or at minimum receiving TE (Likely)

We have real needs at positions that aren’t cheap

The optics would be terrible. You fire Reich before he even finishes a season and nobody wanted to work for Tepper so you had to settle for canales.

He gets you to the playoffs in two years and you can him? Tepper would lose whatever credibility he has left in the league.

And Harbaugh wouldn't want to coach here regardless

It isn't about his time or not his time, the situation created and certainly the press conference after his firing in which Tepper repeatedly intentionally mispronounced his name(a notorious Tepper practice) broadcast to the entire NFL coaching community who he is. Furthermore, saddling him with some chaotic "dream team" staff isn't what any credible head coach would want. He did it again with Canales and Evero.

That's the point, any notion of "oh you have to be careful about how it looks" is long gone. This is overwhelmingly the worst job in the NFL. That isn't likely to change because they fire Canales now or when they fire him next season/offseason. You aren't gonna get extra credit for that.

I don't think this is real, but if it is, you take him over Canales I think.  The play calling has been really suspect and "playoffs" at 8-9 is not that impressive to me.  I felt the same when we made it at 7-9 years back.  Decisions like trotting XL week after week after dumb mistakes is questionable.  The RB gets this drive, the next gets that one.... questionable.  It would be odd to have a playoff coach fired but 8-9 is not really the norm for a playoff team so who knows.  I do expect him to be the coach next year though and we need a real backup and competition for Bryce (a Canales chosen QB).
