I would give him a 3 yr $15M with 12 guaranteed.

So he holds out in 2027 instead?

I wouldn’t take that. Panthers are facing a murderers row next season and were already primed to regress anyway.

and again, gotta strike while you have leverage. He has it right now and the panthers don’t.

I was thinking 3year $20M (ish) is a little more reasonable and easy for both sides to swallow.

As for leverage...the Panthers have it all. He can play next year for $6.7M (with my numbers) or $1.1 (league min) or $0 (sits out). I can't imagine risking getting hurt for $1.1M while turning down guaranteed money. Also...by sitting out 2026, he looses all the momentum he had and becomes just another UDFA that had a few good games in the minds of GM's everywhere. No way someone keeps him in mind when handing out big contracts a year after playing a down.

He's a good player and absolutely will get paid, but it won't break the bank.

Or he holds out. Happens literally all the time.

If nothing else, pride shouldn’t allow him to play for a team paying him less than Xavier legette.

Hold out for what? They aren't required to pay him anything if he doesn't sign it, nor can another team sign him.

That would be a very bad look for a guy that is just starting to get his career off the ground.

If he is smart, he keeps the length of the deal very, very short(ideally 1 year) and he bets big on himself.

You sir are making a lot of sense to me!  People acting like turning down $15 - $20M is easy.

Best case for him would be a 2 year deal for $12M-$15M. If I'm the Panthers, I'm pushing for a 3-4 year deal at those rates. Interesting to see how it plays out.

Which is why he’s a Panther for 2 more years at a fixed price with not much he can do.

so...he's essentially already on a 2 year $8M (ish) contract with only $1.1M guaranteed?? $1.1 URFA in 2026 and $7M in 2027 RFA with a 1st round tender, if I'm understanding things correctly.

We have more leverage than I thought.

Reality check - XL and Coker have almost the same production the past two years.  I'm pulling for Coker and I think he can be a great tandem with TMac, but let's tap the breaks on giving him a big payday.  The NFL is littered with WRs that have 500 yards receiving and hit a big game every once and a while.

I love all the people saying he's our best WR right now, I think you're letting that playoff game skew your thinking just a tad bit.

I know  he started the year hurt and it affected him, but he still played in 11 games and only had 400 yards, with only 2 regular season games having over 52 yards (and still only 60 and 74 yards in those two).  His playoff performance was the same total as his 2 best games this year combined, which is awesome, but it also shows the playoff game was more of an outlier than the norm for him right now.

Love his potential and think he can be a really good player for us, but saying he's our best WR right now over T-Mac just makes you sound dumb, sorry.

He and his agent would turn those deals down. It doesn't make sense for him to sign a long term deal if he is gonna get a chance to start.
