Not gonna lie... my expectations start at winning season. I would love to win the division again, maybe win a playoff game, but 9 wins is all I ask.

I've often wondered this of other fans: would you prefer 9-8, no playoffs, 8-10 seed in NFC, or 8-9, NFC South title, playoffs, 4-seed in NFC? Does an above-.500 record make a season better than a losing record but playoffs?

Basically do you prefer 2007 Browns to 2014 Panthers?

I prefer 9-8. Reason being, winning season shows overall improvement and is the 1st step to establishing a winning culture.

Backing into the playoffs with a losing record doesn't show you earned anything. It's the product of a weak division. If playoffs were based off records, most likely you're not going because another team(s) have a better record.

Chances are too, the next season, you're going to have a tougher schedule and a couple of those bounces that went your way are going to go the other direction and it's another losing season and no playoffs.

There have been 5 teams to get into the playoffs with a losing record. The 2014 and 2025 Panthers are 2 of those teams. Losing record trip 3 isn't exactly something I would be proud of doing. We have 9 playoff appearances so far, 2 of them simply because we won a shitty division. Another one would mean 30% of our appearances are only because we were the least stinky turd. That's a stat I'd want to flush.

Lost all credibility 4 seconds in with "the stability we have with Dave Canales".

GTFOH.

We aren’t in danger of being in the basement anymore and if we keep drafting well we could get to the playoffs after a while. I don’t mind if we get a new QB and coach eventually but we are “stable” and I’m grateful for it.

This team as currently constructed with regards to roster and staff could easily finish with a top 5 pick next year.

We currently have the 4th longest odds to win the Superbowl, tied with Tennessee, who was dreadful this year in every way.

This past season was "fun" with all the ups and downs, but there was nothing about the season that convinced me Bryce Young, Dave Canales or Dan Morgan are on the right path for long-term organizational success.

Some good points, but I disagree. To me, the goal is to win the division and make the playoffs. If that's made easier some years than others, so be it -- but I enjoy the discussion on either side.

I agree more than not with all that but it’s just a much much better spot than we’ve been previously and I think we can go through a coach/qb transition without a 2010 kind of rebuild year.

This team, again, as it's constructed now, will be favored in ONE game next year.  Home against Atlanta.  We'd be underdogs in every game if Atlanta wasn't as poorly run as we are and letting Cousins walk.

Morgan will have to have an amazing offseason and draft, Canales will have to come up with something more innovative and unpredictable than last year's call sheet, and Young will need to take a huge step forward for this team to win more than 5 games next year.

This team is not good, they are not a playoff team, and guys who were here and contributing are going to go elsewhere to win if they have the chance.

He can say “we” just as a fan. We sure do.

I think all the ex players that went out on good terms say it when talking to each other.

But he does work for the team, and will be slow to say something negative.

    • All these rankings have more to do with the writers love or hate for a team.  Morgan, IMO, has done a really good job at building this team.  Yeah, there are a couple of whiffs but for the most part he has done quite well drafting and signing free agents.  22 is a bit low but it's a stupid opinion based on how little a writer knows about the Panthers.
    • When I saw that I was thinking the same thing.  If Evero does have a great season and gets hired as a head coach I wouldn't mind see McD as our DC.  If we do poorly as a team, I definitely would want him to be the front runner for HC.
    • But it's not about not upsetting a player under contract, it's about not causing a rift in the locker room. The players love Bryce, whether as a person or a player doesn't matter.  You can't spend a Top 10 pick on a QB and then still start your #1 overall pick in the last year of their contract. That act alone will cause a massive locker room rift/distraction that would be unavoidable.  Some players will question why you "wasted" a Top 10 pick on a QB you're not going to start instead of someone who can help right away.  While others will question why we are keeping Bryce around for the season when it's clear he's not the future guy at that point. It would just make for a bad start to the rookie's career while causing locker room distractions.  Again, I'd bet this has never happened in this league before with any 1st round QB, let alone the #1 overall pick, and there is a reason for it, which is that it would be epically stupid to do. And I used the Vikings as the example as they're the closest I can think of, because again, there isn't a direct comparison as nobody has ever done it because it's that dumb of an idea (no offense lol).
