they are definitely trying and seem to have a plan

a business lesson: nobody ever gets fired for following the plan. That said, if the plan doesn't work, change the plan. Don't go rogue and come up with your own solution. There's a playbook for a reason

Hiring Bevell feels like a Dan Morgan move, and a good one at that. I can see him running the offense on day 1. Idzik is completely useless and/or trying to design an offense that works with BY at QB is something he is just not able to accomplish. Either way, I don’t see Idzik on the team in 2027. There is nothing gained with his input at this time.

If 2026 goes to ish and Canales is fired mid-season, Bevell is a logical choice to assume head coaching duties. Had Bevell not been hired, that duty would go to Evero, who would possibly refuse to do so, or Idzik who is a big 4 thumbs down.

call me crazy but I like this move

moving Canales to a more CEO type role I think will help w/ running the day to day function of the team and also with in game management of situations. I think he was so focused on calling plays he was sort of losing the forest for the trees so to speak.

God I hated those fuging chuck ups so much. Should have been interceptions but consistently caught by his wr. The horseshoe was so deep up that cucks ass it was infuriating.

Exactly my feelings back then. I never took Wilson as a top QB because of that either. Right or wrong. I guess some of it was I envious. Of his luck lol.

Wow, I'm shocked.

I wonder if they reviewed all the games and came to the conclusion of the play calls and the quarterback did not mix that well. Granted, I think I know which side carries the brunt of that blame, but it's just another step in the "Is Bryce our guy?" experience I suppose.

I do wonder how much this will free up Dave though as well and help Idzik grow and potentially get interview opportunities.

The first sign of a coach on the hot seat and under pressure to improve next season.

Oh yeah the switching up the play calling is often the first punt. It usually isn’t a voluntary concession.

Except I think this is possibly more an honest self scout than pressure from the owner type of a thing. Is this a defensive move reeking of fear like it normally is, trying to placate an unhappy owner/fan base or a sincere attempt to improve the results? I am leaning sincere.

I say that because I get zero sense from Tepper that he is even one foot off the wagon. He seems to be very much on board, going by that McAfee interview. The average fans are the same. All bought in after making the playoffs.

Will this help drain the BY excuses?

Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.

It is just as likely to multiply them.

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
