Dane Brugler from The Athletic 2-round cock draft

Recommended Posts

19. Carolina Panthers: Akheem Mesidor, edge, Miami

General Manager Dan Morgan, a member of the Hurricanes’ Ring of Honor, isn’t going to draft a Miami player because of the connections to his alma mater. But it wouldn’t hurt, especially with the Panthers in the market for a charged-up edge rusher

51. Carolina Panthers: Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Texas Tech

I’m speculating here, but I think it is fair to say Rodriguez is the type of linebacker that Morgan would greatly appreciate. Because of Rodriguez’s toughness, athleticism and instincts, this would be a great fit for both sides.

Would love Rodriguez if we don’t go CJ Allen or Hill Jr. R1.

Think he’s an excellent player that won’t have much issue translating.

Like him ahead of Trotter but both would fit our scheme as odd front offballs.

Mesidor I like, he’s a guy who should have an immediate impact but is also 25 😕

They asked Morgan about older players in either his presser or McAfee, I don’t recall.
He said yeah, he got it, basically. But that if the player was advanced enough that you don’t need to develop him for a couple of years and can step right in and produce on a rookie deal… “there is value there”.
I am not recalling if this was tangental to the being fooled by one year of production comment or a particular player or any of that.

But he’s right. If you could get 5 years off a 1st rounder and let someone else overpay him, that isn’t a horrible scenario.

I am not applying this specifically to Mesidor just in general.

However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
