REPORT: Panthers going after Browns TE David Njoku

It is why/how we got Greg Olsen from Chicago - Martz was running their offense and didn’t value him.

No I mean DC not wanting to use a receiving TE.  He used Otton in Tampa when he was calling plays so I don't know where this is coming from.  Drafting a receiving TE in JT also shows he is wanting one that can catch...

Yeah, there are several posters who don't think TE is a need at all because Canales doesn't use them. I mean, given our TE roster of course our TE usage in the passing game is going to be limited. We have a roster full of third stringers.

Yeah he used Otton in his one season as a play caller.  He just doesn't have much to work with here.  I still see Tremble and Evans getting out on routes though and obviously JT was drafted to be that guy whether he works out or not...

I'd actually be really interested to see Bryce with a beast of a TE like Njoku. We all know how much Shockey and Olsen meant for Cam in those early years. Haven't a safety blanket and matchup nightmare like Njoku actually would evolve this offense tbh (well, that and an actual QB)

I mean, he uses them here. Does he use them to the degree we used an Olsen? Haven’t seen it. I guess you could claim that is because we don’t have an Olsen. Or is it maybe we don’t have an Olsen because we don’t sufficiently value an Olsen.

Or maybe we don’t value an Olsen because we don’t feel the QB can really utilize a TE the way an Olsen was utilized? And if Canales had more QB to work with he would change his M.O.

I do not want to take TE at 19. If we do, I guess we’ll find out the answer to the secret.

They did use Jimmy Graham some in Seattle. For a little while. I can’t even think of the name of their other TEs.

PS yes Martz, or the GM that negotiated the swap, fuged up with the Olsen deal. But some coaches don’t want that much from their TE. Olsen was unhappy with the situation. If he had an Olsen would Canales trade him away? I would hope not.

On the Canales doesn't use TE's talk.

For the most part the bread and butter for TE's is the middle of the field or to the sideline is it not?

I specifically remember Newton and Olsen being deadly on those quick outs to the sideline.

Realistically neither is something that our starting QB has shown consistent success with 3 years in the league.
