With these FA moves, PFF guys don't know who to mock to us

I'm just targeting the players I like for us. Impact over position.

CJ Allen is a green dot.  Devin Lloyd isn't.  Excels in coverage and on-field communication.  And the guy is a brick house.  Think he's an animal and perfect piece for the center of the defense.

I don't think Lloyd is going to be anywhere but in the center. I mean, are you suggesting that he doesn't excel in coverage? Are you saying that we got bamboozled?

From what was available, I would have gone:

1. Lomu or Woods

2. Rodriguez

3. Slaughter would have been fine.

If you can get Slaughter in the second or third round, you're certainly not over-drafting him in the first.

No, not at all, Oluokun was green dot in JAX.  Lloyd was the more athletic compliment to him that was given assignments.  Olo directed him presnap.   For comp, Lloyd was the Bowman to Oluokun as Willis.  So yeah, he's a huge boost for us but we still need a guy.

So it would be wise to pair him with a guy who can take on the communication role and excels in coverage.  People are juicing for Rodriguez but he doesn't quite fit that.  CJ Allen or Lawson would.  It's a good fit.

For being the Will, Lloyd should be the better LB in coverage, but he has lapses.  Historically, he has been super spotty but player pretty well in 2025.  So it's hard to know.  But I don't think he's Mike.  So you need a Mike who's got coverage skills IMHO.

Are you suggesting that we need to trade up (because I don't know about that)?

Ideally trading back to match the value to what is there, is what I have been thinking as I look at the needs and the prospective players we would have a shot at. I am just out on a Sadiq or a WR for us and kind of hoped if something like that fell to us it might get us a trade partner.

I am not a big trade up guy, especially in the 1st but if we didn’t have to go too far to jump someone I would be in favor of looking at it.  My opposition for the trade up is mostly against using a future first which I am completely against, always. A minor move in the right situation, I can probably stomach it.

We have to address LOT somehow.  To me it is a dire need. Code red.

If the Panthers are still going with the BPA philosophy and Kenyon Sadiq is still hanging around at 19, they have to select him. He's a top 10-15 prospect.

Can he block? I don’t know anything about him.

I just thought that this was interesting, even if it seems like they're kinda throwing crap against the wall. They generally don't know which way to go--we'll go--based upon our needs relative to their assigned players' and general positional value. But during their three-round mock, they landed on

1. Omar Cooper

2. Eli Stowers

3. Jake Slaughter

They weren't necessarily crazy about the picks, but think these are some good players. They said something to the effect that they thought making our picks would be easy, but the addition of our two new defensive cornerstones, now it's hard.

Dan and the FO have really done a great job so far of putting us into a position of taking the BPA (not that their finished in free agency). I just think that it's interesting to ponder how positional value is going to play in our draft equation. Tillis, with his PFF background, may be going through similar mental exercises.

You know me though. I'm not gonna cry over a receiver, especially a legit route runner, in the first. That would be three years in a row, which seems kinda weird, but perhaps not when you consider the current build of the team.  I do think that we'll strongly consider OT in round one, but one that's worth it has to be available. As for LB or DT, it doesn't sound like they believe that the value will necessarily be there, especially LB since we've already committed so many resources to it.

What do y'all think that we'll do? All this is subject to change before free agency ends. It's really a good time to be a Panthers fan.

Yeah I hate that Draft - and yes that popped up on my timeline. Gave it a watch 'cos we never usually get that kind of coverage.

They were drafting for need and had no idea what to do with our picks.

I thought Lloyd started wearing the green dot this year

It will be interesting. If there is a run on OTs, then what do you think? We may have to move up.

I think either Lomu, Freeling (Go Dawgs!), or Proctor will be there though. It's gonna come down to our valuation.

I don't think there is any way that we take a center in the first. First of all, it's really too high to draft a center, and, secondly, we haven't drafted a center in damned near 20 years. The FO might just not value the position like that; they have money in the tackles and the guards.

100% we are not taking a C 1st round. I'm just saying these are needs and drafting a WR in the 1st round (that will be a late 1st/early 2nd pick) will mess up position of needs later on with our draft picks. Only receivers I could see us thinking about drafting at 19 are Tate (who isn't falling to us) or Lemon (who probably won't fall to us).

... Which is why I listed him in the 3rd like they did lol

1st round: Lomu or Woods

2nd Round: Rodriguez

3rd Round: Slaughter

Having our starting LT coming from the Raiders 25' oline is more than code red for me. That's some close the blast doors on Crystal Mountain and pray Joshua can figure out tic-tac-toe.

Maybe they transitioned to him taking that on, and if so, then I'll definitely reconsider my position here.   I won't be stubborn about it, hard to prognosticate as fans this time of year.  I'm not drawing any lines in the sand.

If he did and was able to make the strides we saw, then feck, maybe we've got ourselves the dude on defense.

I will say, having the green dot on the more athletic guy helps widen the pool of targets for who can compliment him.
