So Bryce has been in the league 3 years. I wouldn't even count his rookie year with the horrible weapons and coaching staff he was surrounded with. Year 2 there was growth after the benching. Year 3 he was able to build off that and play a lot more consistent and eliminated a lot of the back breaking plays he made in his first 2 seasons. He has progressed. Is it as fast as everyone would have liked it to be? Of course not but he has absolutely not regressed. He needs to take another step forward this year but let's not act like he hasn't improved from year 1 to year 2 to year 3 because he absolutely has.

Hes improved to a top 22ish qb (at best and thats beinggenerous).  Weeee let's throw a parade

I mean, I ain't acting like that. Depending upon who and what you look at, he has improved from the bottom to near bottom to the bottom third. Yay!

Ill say this, DC playcalling, about 30% of the time did Young no favors

He sees no blame in himself and there was plenty

Sees no blame in himself....

Yet, he "Gives up play-calling", and we bring in Bevell.

Y'all Bryce stans just make poo up.

Basically, he's a competent NFL QB. He's bottom third in the league. That's actually not a terrible thing. You can win some with a bottom third QB. If over time he takes a few steps forward he might be a median level QB. I think those are the kinds of steps that Canales is talking about.

If you've truly got a median level QB, it's probably worth keeping him as opposed to roll on the dice in the draft. But just to be super clear, I don't think he is capable of taking those steps, and I think we should and will move on after the season

There is some truth in what you say about having a bottom tier QB and still having some success in the NFL. However, the rest of the team can't be bottom tier at any level.

You can't have bottom tier skill players, o-lineman, d-lineman, LB's and DB's. Those positions would have to be mid-top tier to compensate for the weakness at QB.

And, Bryce would have to be willing to be paid as a bottom tier QB. That would allow the team to fortify all of the above positions to enhance BY's chance of success on the field. Unfortunately, I think there is little chance of Young and his agent accepting that in today's QB market. Which, is why Carolina has to be willing to move on if he doesn't show any significant improvement over the next 2 seasons.

Bryce either takes a Darnold step, or you have to move on. Simple as that IMO.

The easy answer right now is he's in no way worthy of a $50+ mil extension. By the end of the season, if we're not on here fighting about his exact extension number, we have our answer and time to draft another or go all in on someone else (Burrow, Hurts, etc.)

I don't think that's realistic. Carolina ain't San Francisco (scheme and playcalling), Minnesota (WRs), or Seattle (all of the above, plus an insane defense).

Just play consistently well. Command the offense with hot routes, smart audibles and protection adjustments. Take more deep shots when they're there. Make less foolish plays, particularly fumbles on your own side of the field.

The rest of the team has to catch up with SF, MIN and SEA before we can expect much more.

I agree 1000% and its also the same reason I think drafting a TE/WR at 19 is a fools errand.   Seattle and San Fran had sick defenses during their playoff runs.  Although due to circumstances if a tackle fell I wouldnt cry but man I really really want a suffocating defense again.  Those are always fun to have

Seattle had a sick D but they also scored 483 points,  which was good for 3rd in the league.

We scored 311 ,the bottom tier.

A sick D will only make us halfway competitive.

good point, JSN had 1800 yards, the next closest was cupp at 600.   You dont need playmakers at every position, you just need a competent coach and decent qb.

Sam Darnold had one less pass attempt than Bryce Young last season and threw for 1,037 more yards.

Yes talent matters and the Seahawks have a great deal of it especially on the defensive side of the ball.

But Bryce is not suddenly going to just wake up one day and be as physically gifted as Darnold.

I'll just take the super processor. If he could get to that, I think we'd all be feeling better about his future. Not holding my breath though. More likely to hold my nose. I haven't completely given up though.

If they have a 2015 defense and BY leads them to a top 10 pick, his days would be numbered. But no QB is going out there making perfect passes and reads every play. Can't expect to win a lot of games when every TD takes 15+ plays. Gotta have some explosive players on offense.
