BREAKING: Panthers insider says KC Conception is the favorite @19

The offense needs playmakers, we were last in the league the past two years in YAC. The Saints are trading up with Cardinals in order to draft Carnell Tate. Teams with promising young QB’s (Bears last year) are making sure they make it easier on them by acquiring playmaking offensive weapons. The coaching staff cannot hope that Xavier figures it out, they will draft his replacement if need be.

We don't have a promising young QB.

A QB that could threaten downfield to keep the D from sitting on all the underneath stuff would help a lot more than another WR.

Imagine drafting yet another WR in the first round only to yet again field a bottom 10 offense

I don't have to imagine all that hard. You can only polish a turd so much. No amount of shine can distract from the fact that, at the core, you still have a turd.

As I have asked before, what do people expect to get from the 3rd guy? He will take targets away from who we have already, most likely. So that is an offset to start with. What will we net? 30 or 40 yards more per game? That is me being generous.
Three years of 1sts will get us up to 210-220 ypg?
You can put three 4th rounders out there and get over half that. Minimum.

we need to 1st round QB not WR.

Yes, but it would be a well polished turd.  Style points for presentation.

By mid-season several teams will be in tank mode for the QB rich 2027 draft.  Bryce will play just well enough to keep us out of the top 3 or 4 QB sweepstakes next April, but not well enough to be in serious playoff contention either.  Double whammy.

It has been a nightmare.

What I project as possible trouble is the running game falls off with inadequate investment in the OL remaining a strength.
We just can not win without a very stout running game.
You have a weak running game and then trouble protecting the QB due to predictable situational disadvantages, like everyone knows it is a pass play on third and 8.

Then you have all the built in excuses just hanging low on the tree limbs ready to pick. It won’t be Bryce’s fault. It will be, again, the team failed him.

Enough of that poo.

I mean, excellent route runner, great feet and quickness (which we just don't have), local (so likely a Panthers fan), and nfl.com has an interesting comp for him who was Dave C's pride and joy as a coach: Doug Baldwin.  So I can buy this even if it ends up smoke.  Also, he's different than any prospect we've drafted at the spot.  I don't see the consternation -- yeah Coker is good, but man we still need some offense.

It's not the end of the world people. Would be an interesting pick.

    • And that makes you right.
    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
