Bryce Young 5th year option exercised

If he is stinking it up this year hopefully the fans will take it into their own and hands and boo him off the field, or just stop showing up to games altogether. The GM and HC are clearly not going to pull the plug on their own. Hopefully the other guys show some promise in preseason while they coddle BY on the bench.

As distasteful as the extension is, the team purchased a year of optionality for $25M.  If the FO goes first round QB in 2027 draft, you still need a bridge QB for, say, $8-$10M.  The real cost of optionality is then $15M.

I don’t like it but I understand it.  YMMV.

I dunno how you can keep him on the roster as a bridge QB if you draft his replacement in the 1st round and expect things not to be super awkward. At the same time if he blow it this year nobody is going to trade for that $25M contract so if he bombs we're in a bit of a pickle.

I dont see why he cant be the bridge QB and whoever trades for him would renegotiate the contract

Yea, if we draft a QB in the 1st next year there is a literal 0% chance Bryce is on the roster for even OTA's, let alone by the time camp comes around

Really?

You don't see why a team can't draft a QB in the 1st round while then starting their former #1 overall pick over them while on the last year of their deal?

It puts the team in a TERRIBLE place no matter how the season goes.  If Bryce sucks, you have to answer questions as to why he was still on the team to begin with, let alone starting over the rookie.  If he's good, then you run into the situation the Vikings were in last offseason with sticking with the rookie contract or the the guy who just performed instead of said young QB.

It's one thing when teams keep a vet around as a bridge QB, it's something entirely different when that QB is still only in their mid 20's and was taken #1 overall by that team.

That just doesn't happen and not sure it ever has in NFL history before.

Yeah, you could keep Pickett and let him battle it out for the starting job against a rookie since he's been thrown around a bit already. Keeping BY around if they draft someone early would be such a media distraction even if it wasn't an internal one. Although judging by his dad's presence i'm sure it would be a major issue for them

1st of all, it isn’t two more years, contractually. His year was guaranteed and locked up. They bought one year.

However we got there (lol) we made the playoffs for the first time under Tepper. The QB held up and gave us a decent chance to win. Sorry those are facts.

In reality, you kind of have to give them keeping him around this year and with the way these agents frame things, it is a bad idea to leave it like he is on a one year prove it deal by declining the 5th year. If he in fact does step up, he can then leave for the open market and likely would because of the ‘disrespect’.

That or reel us in the contract. Neither is good. And when you look at the FA qb market for 2026, and the trade market in regards to a few backups with potential… it isn’t they year to jump.
They really are it worried about 26.5 million which they can split up over two seasons if they want out. It is not a crippling deficit. It is the cost of doing business.  So I understand why this was done.

Im not saying you plan to make him your bridge.  You plan to trade him, but if that doesnt work out only thing left is to cut him

Honest question.   What do you think his trade value is today.  4/28/26?     I'd say maybe a 4rth.

Yea I'm thinking someone would give him a chance with a 4th now.  If he shits the bed next season I think we could still get a 5th
