Teams Calling About Smitty

This isn't about personal relationships anymore, this team has been too political sense its' founding. I love Smith as much as the next guy (I actually met him in Spartanburg and got to know him a little better) but the team needs to keep him. This team isn't going to get any better drafting mediocre players in the third round (which is the pick that Panthers would likely receive for Smith). Having a fire sale on players rarely works. The best way to rebuild is within then out. Not out then in.

Who said anything about Geno. I said see if some team want to give up what Washington did this past draft or more you would have to think about trading Cam.

You aren't talking about Geno anymore cause he's had his fall from grace.

No you would not, Cam is only in his second year. What the fug are you talking about? Jesus, you're idiot.

Ffs, Smitty has given has entire career to this team. Stew i would trade in a heart beat. Seeing Smitty play for another team would make me puke.

I hate to be reactionary. But I would fire sale the fug out of this roster right now for as many middle round and young players as I could get.

Only people safe would be Cam, Kalil, and Stewy

DG chimes in, and it sounds EXTREMELY unlikely we deal anyone:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/30/teams-calling-panthers-to-see-if-steve-smiths-available/

The buzzards circling the carcass of the Carolina Panthers have shifted their gaze from running back DeAngelo Williams to wide receiver Steve Smith.

Jay Glazer of Fox reports teams are calling the Panthers about the possibility of trading for Smith, but the Panthers have turned the inquiries down at this point.

After the firing of general manager Marty Hurney, teams are naturally (and perhaps correctly) perceiving panic and trying to buy pennies on the dollar.

Multiple sources inside the Panthers organization suggest a trade of a star player would be considered unlikely, with any move of substance (i.e. trading Smith or Williams) having to be run past owner Jerry Richardson first.

Head coach Ron Rivera had his Al Haig moment last week, saying the buck stopped with him on personnel moves, but when asked about rumors of a Williams trade Monday, deferred to Brandon Beane, who was Hurney’s right hand man who handled all the organization’s logisitics and is being referred to as an interim GM.

Smith’s one of Richardson’s favorites, and after Smith came off a previous trade demand, was given a contract extension that should carry him to the practical length of his career.

I would make the Smitty trade. With trade incentives of course. Like if he gets 1200 yards a 3rd round pick turns into a 2nt. Or if he gets 10+ TD's and 1200 yds, its automatically a first round pick. Just saying.

I'd rather a player than a pick.

Ok lets be realistic here. Cams Contract is for 4 years with a team option on the 5th year. So he has or will have played 2 years after this season. Leaving 2 years left with the 1 year option. You honestly think he is going to stay here after 5 seasons. Dont count on it. All we are doing is grooming Cam to move on to a big market team. We are going to be rebuiding for the next 2-3 years any way. Why not see what we can get out of him in a trade.
