When not to drain your pool

Police in Norwalk arrested a local man Thursday after he allegedly drained a swimming pool onto a curvy, downhill stretch of road in frigid morning temperatures, creating a vast icy sheen on the roadway that sent several cars spinning and sent one woman to the hospital.

Norwalk police Lt. Paul Resnick said that officers were called to the area of  Flax Hill Road near the intersection of Keeler Avenue around 9:15 a.m. Thursday for a report of a one-car accident and slippery conditions. The city also sent a salt truck to the area.

The icy covering the road was so widespread that even the police had trouble getting close to the scene, which was on a downhill section of the road that has a S-curve in it.

Investigators found that the huge ice sheen had been caused by an employee of Darien-based Swimm Pool and Patio (sic), who was doing winter service on pool on Westview Lane.

The employee, identified as 34-year-old Alfredo Bahena-Benitez, allegedly drained the pool with a hose, which he ran out to Flax Hill Avenue, just uphill from the crashes.

Officers believe the water traveled down Flax Hill road, covering the road in ice and pooling at a low point in the road at the intersection with Primrose Court.

Officers said that the Bahena-Benitez’s actions were responsible for the three accidents and they had the pool company send him back to the scene. He was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment and his bond was set at $1,000.

    • After watching Dan for 3 yrs now, I think I understand his plan. It’s a simple plan that should work for the long run.     I saw some of this last yr. Dan wants a vet and a young player at each position. I really think we go OT if one they like there. Moton is aging, Icky will not be back until 27, if ever. We need to get ahead of the tackle problem
    • You are just stressing too much about these particular positions. You want to upgrade from Bryce and I understand that but you aren’t going to really get that without getting into a bidding war for a QB2 potential QB1 like Willis. You could possibly trade for Mills or the backup for Chicago but they are still gambles and their teams will won’t decent picks.  Again the Eagles thought KP was a capable enough backup to trade for him once their backup was hurt and won a Super Bowl with him as QB2. The point is most teams aren’t rolling with some stud QB2/3 that is going to push even a bottom tier starter. They are better off the building their roster in other areas. The Rams are rolling with Bennett right now as QB2 for example.  The goal is winning absolutely. We overachieved last year even with stumbling into the playoffs. Another year and this staff needs to take the next step in building a team. Will Grier has little to no impact on that….
    • Three straight first round WRs is straight up Matt Millen poo. Considering the draft capital we have tied up on Bryce after that trade we would basically have spent damn near all of our draft capital in recent years on QB and WR just to put one of the most anemic passing offenses in the league on the field. Clown show poo.
