Everyone seems to be ignoring a very important apostrophe s. "Steve's had" means "Steve has had" which is present tense, not past. Present perfect or something like that, been a long time since grade school English class.

Not really if you take out the emotional aspect of it as a fan. Think about who Smith is and you'll start to think that there's something to it.
