Eh, I f'ing hate saying this, but the falcons fan is right. This is a mediocre signing at best. Decoud in NO way improves this defense over last year, at absolute best it's a step to the side. I'm not even sure the guy will see the damn field that often, for reasons mentioned in this thread. My homer shades are usually pretty thick, but even I can see through them to know we shouldn't get excited over this signing.

 

That's just it, we don't need to improve the defense, just maintain the level we played at last year.  It was good enough to carry us to a 12-4 record and division crown.  What needs to improve is the offense.  That's what will take us to the SB.

I have no doubt that they will either cut or restructure Godfrey. My focus now is on the offensive line and a down the field threat. Our defense is set IMO.

OL is by far my biggest worry.

 

Hell, we could take a WR in the third round and pair him with what we have an be OK in the passing game.

 

OL (especially LT) is a different story.

Our 3rd round pick is really a early 4th round pick. So no I hope we get a WR sooner then that.

Let me get this straight. We fuged up in signing a 2012 Pro Bowler for peanuts. He isn't worthy of a starting spot in the DB and will struggle for playing time.

 

Maybe some are just desperate to have a DB punching bag on the team to replace Captain, who was one sorry CB, according to the Huddle, until the front seven made him look like a player to be coveted by other teams. Could be that Decoud doesn't have to be a super safety to end up looking shiny either. We've seen that you don't have to have a great secondary to have a great D, if your front can carry the weight.

I just don't see the negative in signing this guy. What did he do the year before last to warrant a pro bowl? I've heard all about last year. What did he do the year before when Atlanta was competitive?

I just have a feeling that this team does not think Byron Bell is nearly as bad as we all do. I think the team has a lot of faith in Bell and Chandler. We have not brought in one OL UFA. I think that shows the type of confidence they have in the players they have.

The Atl front was weak....like Matty Ice's arm type weak. That matters in terms of talking coverage

Again the fact that he was able to produce previously with the same line is ignored. He was atrocious last year, one of the biggest fall-offs I've ever seen. DeCoud's coverage and already weak tackle skills went into the gutter. Playing behind a better front won't change him being unable to play basic coverage and read QB's.
